If wilf goes id like to see someone who can give Benteke service. We may be able to get the best out of him

Sing the mans name Saturday. Make it the loudest it's ever been. A lot of men with much less integrity than he would have walked today.

He's been stitched up in his final season. We basically will lose practically half the first XI next summer, along with him.

I agree with the sentiment. Heís done a good job overall and the first season was truly remarkable.

He seems happy?! Have you seen the interview on sky... he seems genuinely pleased with the players we have. Itís about the most content Iíve seen him in an interview since he got the job. Obviously we have gaps but in Roy we trust and canít be in much better hands this season

Can't help but feel the can is being kicked down the road in terms of addressing looming problems. An aging squad, key players either out of contract in the next year or desperate to leave. Potentially very turbulent times coming in the next season or two, which is still very odd when on the surface the squad doesn't look relegation awful.

I'm still unsure whether or not we're just riding out a particularly rough hangover period due to high wages and transfer fees from the Pardew and De Boer eras and potential owners wanting out. If we can just get through a new season without being relegated, clear out non performing high earners and invest any Zaha money next year we could be in a better position.

A lot of big ifs though. And going to require a proper experienced manager to guide us through this without it all going to shit I think. Hugely lucky to have Roy here now, and I say that as someone who wasn't particularly enthused with the football last season.

The thing is, if we are suffering from the transfer fees and wages from 4 season ago, how on earth are we ever going to compete with the transfer fees and wages of today?

Benteke was a proven Premier League striker, with a decent enough record, a reasonable age, and was 'only' £27million.
Sakho was a current (former arguably?) French international CB with Premier League experience, reasonable age, with possible injury concerns and again, was 'only' £24m.

How on earth will we be dealing with the hangover of transfers from this point onwards, when the likes of AWB, Lewis Dunk, Harry Maguire after 1/2 seasons of football are moving for figures in excess of £45-85m! It's insane!

It's a good point you make, and not something I know the answer too.

I can only see it going one of two ways, we either carry on signing experienced players every couple of years to replace those who drop off in quality due to age or form, carry on limping over the line and see the huge windfalls we receive from the prem gobbled up by high wages to turnover, leaving nothing in the tank for when we inevitably get relegated, as sides of our size will do at some stage. This is the dangerous part though, because if we were to go down one year with an aging squad, on massive wages who weren't performing anymore, you lose the safety net of prem money and have a problem with being able to reinvest to try and go straight back up risking a Sunderland style meltdown.

The other is, we really start to invest in our scouting network and bring in younger players with potential to be sold on for large profit aswell as solid shrewd deals with players that are unwanted at their club and get deals which are value for money. More of a move back towards what got us promoted in the first place, signing players like Bolasie, Ward, Jedinak. There is definitely value in the market if you look hard enough, Camarasa being a prime example. That is a cracking deal I think.

Something has got to give at some stage, but I'm cautiously optimistic that the last two summer windows are showing that we're moving back towards what worked for us before with the signings of Meyer, Guaita and Camarasa.

Think it’s less the fee, more the wages. Our wage bill is far higher than our league finishes and revenue would suggest.

My respect for Hodgson has grown immensely, how many other managers would have stood for this bollocks? He's leaving his reputation on the line trying to perform good things with an unbalanced and weak squad.

Whatever happens Roy will for me be held in the highest regard. At the end of the day itís just typical Palace.

Despite the depressing window weíve got to do our bit and get behind the team.

Weak squad? Come on mate, we've been a lot, lot weaker going into previous seasons. Our starting 11 is arguably the best we've ever had and if Roy can get everyone firing on all cylinders then we can have a very good season.

I guarantee he will get pelters probably starting after the Everton game .

I said squad, not starting 11. Did you see our bench against Hertha Berlin, embarrassing to say the least. Our depth in good options up front is abysmal, in comparison to Sheffield United even for example. Right back we have two players who are both slow and limited in possession.

When Palace “fans” used to scream “make a change Roy” when he had a championship quality bench...a bench which is even worse this season.

Will the team care if they win or not? They get richly warded either way.

Personally, I think they will battle against all odds for their own pride. It won't be pretty to watch but hopefully it will be enough to keep us up for an 8th season and come out fighting and stronger next season.

Our starting 11 is pretty good when healthy but squad depth is terrible, even after all these years.

As of today as compared to last season we are weaker in defence with the loss and non replacement of AWB, and we are weaker in attack by the loss and non-replacement og Batshuayi. That is unforgivable given the time we had to find solutions.

Hodgson must be gutted. Anyone else would have left.

I would be full of admiration for Roy if he cleared his desk and walked out, especially if he threw a few f***s into Parish and Freedman on his way out the door.

Agree. We are so lucky to have him. I have no fears of us going down with him in charge.
