Ideal world would see Chelsea have their transfer ban delayed, they offer 50M plus Reece James for Zaha

He's a first team player who has waited patiently, deserves a recall.

Would be happy to sign up a youngster with potential though
Totally agree. we dont need to break the bank to sign a right back and we should be scouting properly with a view to buy in Jan/End of season. I guess we didnt really expect Wan Bissaka to go this summer a few months ago.

Kelly can slot in too if needed short term.

i still think upfront is the absolute priority

We had the ø for Sørloth so reckon we'd be fine.

How much would he go for? Reports are that Genk rejected £10.5m in January.

Reece James would be my preferred choice. He looked good in a crap side (which makes him perfect for us), plus he won Wigan's player of the year and the players' player of the year awards. I know he broke his ankle not too long ago, but I'd still take him over Max Aarons. Ward/Kelly can fill in whilst he recovers.

Ward is solid. If we signed a young exciting winger who could play in front and cross the ball with his right foot then I’d be happy for JW to be first choice right back. Don’t think he’s a good partner for Andros though, and that’s what we are likely to see.

Ward can actually deliver a decent cross onto Bentekes head and can defend corners.

He can defend corners but I'm amazed at this rewriting of history: Ward is not a good crosser. He is possibly better than AWB but that's it. In any case he lacks the pace or skill to overlap and get back. He should be mostly deep in our own half if at all possible!

4 goals and 5 assists in 170 PL games, almost all of them as a starter. Averages out at a goal and an assist each season playing every game.

AWB had 3 assists last season.

Ward is no better than AWB in the opposition half and you have to think AWB will get better with time.

More weight to the argument that Ward will not be better than AWB going forward. I've got a thread somewhere, before the emergence of AWB, about how Ward needed to be replaced as he is so poor going forward. But we are going backwards as a club, and needs must! (Cabaye gone. RLC gone. AWB gone. Inferior players brought in as replacements so far.)

Between €15-€20m I would think. But that’s purely guesswork.

But he’s young and very good, and whilst he’s clearly not at AWB’s level in one on ones, he’s much better going forward and I think he’d work well with Townsend, whether breaking or on the overlap. Townsend has his limitations going forward, but he works his arse off defensively nd having a fullback who can cross makes his cutting inside more dangerous if there is a genuine attacking threat on the overlap.
