How can Sakho be a bargain when he missed 30 games over the last 2 seasons as well as being injured during his loan period .

Always a negative way to look at every situation.

He’s been a great signing in my mind. He played 27 league games last season, also he is a leader.

It isn't negative , he is a great player for us but missing 40% of our matches over last 2 seasons is not value for money . .

Sakho and Tomkins are one of the most solid defensive partnerships in the Premier League and they cost only £36m but their solidity has already helped to earn Palace nearly £300m in the time that they have played together, much like Benteke's goals in his first season more than warranted his outlay as they helped to keep Palace in the Premier League and earned the club far in excess of his transfer fee and wages.

We are talking about value for money . A player who cost £26m and is earning a reported £120,000 per week cannot be classed as value for money when he has not played in 40 % of matches .

Unbelieveable business by Bournemouth. Bought for £10m? Missed a season and a bit with knee injury. Goes on loan to Championship side. Sold for over double the money.

Think they bought him for £8m.

Not a big loss, but conversely, Bournemouth lost a million over 10 months with the Murray deals.

Does having a great player for 27 matches a season earn more points for a club than an average player over a full 38

?

That's impossible to answer but I can see the argument that Sakho misses all together too many matches for us to be able to say his cost to us is fully worth it. Given the problems we have with an aging, injury prone central defence and assuming we stay up another year, I'd say summer 2020 must be when we look at moving Sakho on and going for youth. This year has to be about strikers and prepping for goal creativity after Wilf goes.

Pretty damn good in that 60% though. Rather have him than an inferior player for 100% of the time. £25m isnt alot anymore.

We don't spot players early enough & take a chance on them. Brentford have been doing it successfully for years. The latest is Konsa who we are supposedly interested in at £15M. They bought him from Charlton for £2.5M. Why didn't we?

That is the clubs policy , buy cheap sell high . That’s why they won’t reach the premier league any time soon .

Bournemouth giving it a go by buying from Bristol City and Luton in the current transfer window, and Sheffield United and Brentford last season.

Mind you 3 of them were over £10m each.

Again, just excuses. There's absolutely no reason why we can't buy cheap and do the same. We just need to improve our scouting and transfer strategy to make it more flexible.

Our current strategy and related wage bill is causing us financial difficulties and is the most likely reason the Americans want out. If we don't look to buy younger players now with the AWB money we will have a major financial headache in a couple of years time when all our older players need replacing, and relegation will be inevitable.

I reckon they're looking ahead at the rule changes around home grown players and realise the big clubs will need to pay big money for quality ones, hence Man Us new strategy. Bournemouth's squad will be worth a lot more than ours within the next few years, in fact other than Wilf it already is.

Shall we wait to see how muff do this season first. They were pretty shit last year and the year before. I don't think we should be signing young players at all for the first team we should be signing 23 to 24 year olds with three seasons worth of experience with at least one year in a top flight league. The effort on young players should be going on the academy and looking to capture the kids that currently go to spurs and chelsea. Imagine if we'd has a Kane, a RLC, a Hudson Odoi etc in the wings that we'd developed at the very least we'd be selling to championship clubs.

In my opinion, our biggest failure by far, is to be the biggest club in south London - a huge hot-bed of football talent - but to consistently fail to grab a fair share of developing talent. QPR, Fulham and Charlton somehow manage to identify talent better, and clubs from other cities/areas manage to grab a substantial proportion of south London talent.
Our reputation as a semi-serious club, must have a lot to do with this. We really need to improve the club's reputation and PR.

A grade one academy might help. Why are good coaches/staff leaving Palace for other clubs on a regular basis ?

According to our academy experts, we have a couple of much better quality age groups' youngsters emerging. Really hope there is some truth in this.

This x100. Criminal that clubs the size of Fulham, QPR and Charlton can dig up some of the best talent from what should be our territory. Chelsea and Arsenal and the like I can accept, but not those 3.

Players of 23-24 with decent experience cost a lot of money, money we don't have. We really need to look a lot deeper than that to find some bargains.
