I guess the only way it works is if Dann wants to take a paycut to move back up north and get 1st team football.

Technically good enough and can still read the game and in terms of ariel ability probably the best we have, just slower than slow these days and only going to get slower. Also, having a 3rd/4th choice centre back on north of £60k a week is a big impact on our wage bill.

Any replacement better than Dann would cost a lot more. If the money can be used to buy a younger player it makes sense. Cahill etc would just be swapping someone that cares about the club with someone that doesn't.
Take a young centre back on loan from a bigger club i.e. Tomori, Rob Holding as cover. Cahill isnt the answer as much as a Dann isnt.

Happy if he stays, understand if he goes. Sounded for a while that wages are our issue so any decent fee is bonus

Yes fully waiting and prepared for all the usual comments about not knowing anything about football, squads, transfers etc
How many PL teams first XI (starting more games than not [19]) last season included 2 of their academy graduates?

Us, Brighton, Man Utd, many others?

I've been saying our wage bill was too high for ages now, however Dann proved he is still a capable defender at this level last season. With the injury record of Sakho and Tomkins I would be inclined to keep him.

So how do you suggest we get the wage bill down. Dann is 4th choice CB and on £60k-£70k a week. A club like Palace canít be paying that sort of money!

Dann did a job for us over the years.

The prospect of him leaving and being replaced by a quality young CB who has potential is very appealing, but given where we are and that our first choice pairing is often injured I can see if he goes a more experienced CB being brought in to replace him.

Someone like Hinteregger who we were linked with would make sense, not necessarily him. Brought in as 3rd choice to push the other 2. Kelly is the back up, but only if Dann were sold

Dann is very good. Itís just his wages for a bench player are high, even if he is a good influence in the dressing room.

Surely he'd sign a new contract on reduced terms if he's happy at the club. It's not like anyone else are going to pay him anything near that again?

Maybe but he won't be signing on reduced terms any sooner than he needs to. So not before his current deal ends.

We have 2 injury prone CBs. Dann will play for sure and he is a class player. Never had pace so as with JW not an issue. Hope we keep him

He was a class player. Not the player he was and on big money to be 4th choice.

He's not really the 4th choice though as when on form is better than Kelly. With the injury records of Tomkins and Sakho the chances are he will play a fair bit this season. I really don't know who we could get better for less money.

On paper it would appear we have sufficient CB's and do not need another, but whilst there is always a nagging doubt on the fitness of THREE of them, then the need will always be there. Hence why i was surprised when we let slip by Dawson and also Jannson who both went for £5m each an absolute steal, why were we not in there.

It’s a tough one really. Tomkins, Sakho and Dann are all known to have a few injuries in the past. But what if we go through the season and they don’t get injured? Dann would be pretty unhappy sitting on the bench, with his ability.

We have 4 centre backs who are all capable of playing in a Premier League team week in, week out. I thinks that’s really impressive to be honest. Plus we have Ward who has dabbled there last season and has not looked out of place.

If it were me, I’d take an offer like 6million for Dann and allow Woods the 4th centre back spot.

Yeah me too at this point, at his age Dann’s not got many years left and I’m sure he’d rather play
