Iím not talking over a season, you replace late in season to get out of trouble, he failed, Roy, pullis, sam didnít. Rafa did as did shearer. You take a gamble but neither were good enough.

That’s total horseshit.

Pulis could’ve fell just short of keeping us up and no reasonable Palace fan would’ve said he failed. Just having us in contention to stay up was brilliant, and actually keeping us up was a miracle.

Allardyce has more than double the time Benitez did, and spent 40 odd million on additions to what was already a superior squad to Newcastle’s. Despite all this he still had a far poorer record than Benitez.

You could also ask any Newcastle fan what they think of Benitez in that first season, and they’d say he wasn’t a failure. They’re the ones that know their team best after all.

Their net spend in the time he's been there is more or less 0. Also just because Roy didn't spend much doesn't change the fact that he was given players like Sakho, Benteke, PVA, Townsend, Schlupp, Luka, and others that the club spent a lot of money on. All of Newcastle's good players were sold when they got relegated.

Regardless of net spend, he's still spent more than Hodgson. And the players you've quoted have either been long term injured or been in less than stellar form apart from Townsend.
It's all moot though as he won't be coming here anyway.

Apparently wasnít happy with a £50m transfer budget at Newcastle, that after spending £20m in January.

No way he should or would come here, the parameters are no different to Newcastle at the moment, probably worse, and I couldnít be doing with his whinging.

There is more chance of the new stand being built than RB coming here.

Everyone called them muppets for calling Pardew a fraud, including our fanbase. Who turned out to be right there?

Didn't end well but how many managerial stints do?

Got us to a cup final and has a higher win percentage than Hodgson, Newcastle didn't do too well after he left either...

Pardew did exactly what he did at Newcastle, and exactly what the Geordies told us he would do. Great for one year, diabolical the next, and left the squad in a unfit, messy state.

Newcastle didn’t do too well after he left because their appointments were Steve McLaren and John Carver, a mid table championship manager and a bloke who probably now works at a Tyneside Greggs. Being better than them isn’t an achievement.

‘Win percentage’ is irrelevant by the way. Look at points per game. Pardew couldn’t get a draw to save his life, it was lose most weeks and win occasionally. Hodgson might not win as much but we draw far more often.

Net spend is another stat people hold up as the holy grail.

Newcastle had a higher wage bill in the Championship, than we had in the Premier League that season. The highest in history in fact at that level.

The following season, saw it dramatically cut; Benitez did a great job in keeping them up. Very fine manager. But absolutely no need to replace Roy (not that he would come here anyway, let's be clear).

I don’t think there’s any ‘holy grail’ stat in football, but it’s far more useful than pure transfer spend. Shows the difference between a well run club like Liverpool for example, and a shambolic club like Man United. Also shows how many resources gained vs resources lost a manager had, and in the case of Benitez, he gained nothing.
