Any right backs in the youth team?

I agree with most that Joel Ward is more than capable, and I'll be delighted to see him get his chance again - but he needs competition.

The money, as others have said, needs to be spent on creativity.

AWB only played 7 games the previous season.

In all Joel has played 218 games for us.

Ward, hopefully he is 1st choice and we don't waste money on a replacement, he's more than capable

Ward is a great pro but he’s slow and he was often unable to block crosses coming in. We will notice a huge difference if he starts the season as first choice RB. I love the guy and he’s a great option for the squad but we need a replacement for AWB.

Has to be Clyne. Ward is too slow for the position now - very good backup though.

Really hope it isn't Clyne. So many better options out there.

Why spend a lot of money on creativity? The way we play is functional, there is not much room for a creative spark. They tend to be players who don't do much of the defence work and Roy like all 11 to put in a defensive shift. He likes players, like Wilf, like Townsend who will run with the ball.

And most importantly, younger. Our entire defence is 29-32 (if you count PVA turning 29 in August). It’ll be a huge pain in the arse if say several of them declined at the same time, and we were left with the task of replacing several at once. Therefore, we should be looking to only sign younger defenders, or at least 26 or under for the next couple of years.

Disagree this needs to be moved to transfer talk. This is for debate about what to do with the void Wan-Bissaka has left, not an exact signing.

I can't imagine JW wanting to hang around if we bring in Clyne as first choice and leave him on the bench. If we did, we might end up buying Clyne and then still needing to buy someone else to replace Wardy. I would rather just keep Joel and bring in a young RB from the lower leagues to add competition, but keep JW as first choice for now.

Although I've not seen that much of him, I get the impression that Clyne's ability has deteriorated more than Joel's.

That's a shame. I'm basing this whole thing on seeing him in a Palace shirt (doesn't feel like that long ago!).

People do the same with Moses and think he’s still a flying, electric winger, when he’s really not. Quality wing back in a Conte system, mediocre everything else.

Also, with Sakho and Tomkins both having a history of injuries, Kelly will likely be needed to play at centre back for a number of games. We definitely need a new right back but whether we spend a lot for a new first choice or get someone who would start as back up to Ward remains to be seen. I would be OK with either scenario.
