In the spirit of ignoring inconvenient facts you appear to have left out the debacles involving Pulis, de Boer, what Pardew did to our players. The stability and continuity we have with Hodgson is a major improvement on recent seasons for a start. He's about as likely to do a Pulis as my cat is to play the Hammerklavier Sonata.

This "we always have a poor start" is pretty much bollocks too. Last season we kicked off with an away win agains a newly promoted team which had just spent 100m. The season before was de Boer. Pardew had a pretty good first half season and only went down the toilet after Christmas.

If you enjoy this sort of thing you should maybe go and support Newcastle. They really are in a mess.

We know how hard this division is. Its a real struggle every season to avoid relegation. At this moment in time we look a bit all over the place in terms of preparation for the new season. This is nothing new for Palace under Parish and normally things work out pretty well so no need to panic - But definitely reason to worry IMO.

Eh? Now yr making the same point as me i.e. we never prepare properly for the season as our signing are always too late or sometimes not at all. Welcome to the pant wetting club.

No, I'm not. We will be fine unless we sell Zaha and fail to adapt. HTH.

I imagine that this is a comment on the current situation rather than a long term problem, if there is one area we do have cover it is in defence. We obviously need a right back, but we do have Sakho, Tomkins, Dann, Kelly, Kouyate and Riedewald who can all play at centre half, and PVA/Schlupp are two PL quality left backs.

I think he was just explaining away a s*** performance. Far too much being read into it by those that enjoy the company of their cardiologists. Sakho and Tomkins aren't in wheelchairs for a start and Ward, Kelly and Dann were all decent when called upon towards the end of last season. I can't understand the remark about defence if interpreted in a strategic light. We have bigger issues elsewhere FFS.

It isn't rocket science, but we seem to do the same shit every year, if it ain't broke Don t fix it..

As a brief aside, what is happening with Souare?

He was apparently in talks over a new deal, then nothing..

Sakho definitely misses quite a few games, but Tomkins not so much. But if we start the season with both still out it is a problem.

The 3 games to look at are the Forest, Bristol City and Berlin games. It is worrying that we have not yet seen Tomkins and Sakho play and hopefully we will do in 2 of those at least. All eyes on the teamsheet on Friday night as that will be close to those we would play if the league were to start this weekend.
Yes. My assumption is that the reason for the team selection last night was down the first team having just played 2 games.

Riedewald isn't good enough, in any position,(IMO) but one place he certainly can't play is centre half

Under Pardew when Souare had that crash. I know Kelly was cover at the time but you could hardly call him a left back.

It's such a rubbish term and applied in a binary fashion: if you're not all happy clappy about things then you're pant wetting and there's no in between.

So no we didn't start the season with only him at LB, we didn't even end the transfer window with only him at LB. It was only after the window had shut that Souare had his crash.

You cannot rewrite history but it is an equally valid point the Souare was at the end of that window our only LB with any sort of experience which was bad enough and 1 reason we struggled so much that first half of the season.

Take a look at Sakhos record on Wikipedia in his 12 year career to date he has averaged less than 20 games per season. For Liverpool he played something like57 games in 4 years. No wonder Klopp wanted rid of. A nightmare signing for a club of our size
