Take us any further? What mid table with minimal backing wtf do you expect . I bloody hope so as he all but guarantees us staying up in Roy we trust. Now if he walks voluntarily Id be very concerned about state of club behind the scenes.

If facts are facts, we have had a net spend of just 2m over the entire last 2 season, yet finished 11th and 12th, the latter with a record Premier points haul.

Depends on if Wilf is here or not. Don't think we will score enough to win enough points if WZ goes, so no. If WZ stays then yes.

In spite of all that we took 4 points off arsenal, beat city at their place and came within a Julian speroni **** up of beating Liverpool at theirs and lost at ours thanks to a bit of gamesmanship. I'm not sure what magic bullshit football you're expecting when the manager gets no support from the board. Until this year we've had big cost challenges why do you think BFS ****ed off then FDB started moaning about our lack of activity in the market. No manager would have gotten the support. Let's see if Roy actually gets some players this window before you start bitching him out.
Well said. He's done brilliantly with what he's been given. (Don't hold your breath for transfer support from the board though!)

VERY concerning!
For all the facts that will be conveniently glossed over in this thread to suit certain opinions, I think this is a key one that hasn't been mentioned enough.

Pretty much the only stain on Hodgson's record is difference at home in his two seasons in charge. In his first season we scored far more goals at home despite not having a prolific goal-scorer and a decent home record with some memorable performances to reflect on. But in his second season, with pretty much the same squad, we suddenly became a team who hardly ever fashioned chances in open play, relied heavily on penalties and were painful to watch for large periods. This was apparent very early on and despite Roy's experience and quality, he was unable to do anything about it until arguably the last game. He then exacerbated this situation by admitting to not really caring about poor home form because we were picking up results away.

For anyone who feels certain fans take Hodgson for granted and can't work out why anyone would dare criticise him, this is the exact reason because it's really the only significant stick you can beat him with in what's otherwise been a very good job. Certainly in the eyes of anyone like me, who cares far more about the football I watch live at Selhurst than away games I generally don't attend. If you don't go to home games or enjoy how we play at home, of course you'll be confused as to why anyone questions him. You might also feel the same if you think Cabaye and RLC > Meyer and Kouyate is the sole reason for such a huge drop off in goals (personally I don't) or that you absolve Roy of any responsibility for this because you think he's got a terrible squad he's extracting miracles from (which I also don't, especially if you compare it to the far inferior team Pulis incredibly led to 11th place).

For a repeat of last season's home woes not to be a valid concern in the upcoming season, it would rely on our away form being as sensational as it was last season and us being awarded an unusually high amount of penalties again or some other unexpected bonus source of points, none of which are guaranteed.

But even if those things did happen, another dour season of inability to break teams down at home will get more fans on Roy's back regardless of how well he's doing overall. Therefore, it's a valid question to ask and I don't think it's fair to shout the thread-starter down for asking it, when this is a discussion board.

If Roy and/or the club can find a way to repeat the previous season's good home form, even if away form suffers and we finish in the same position, generally very few will have anything to complain about, as was the case in 2017/18.

Well said ORP
All too often fans on here want to blame RH without realising what a sterling job he has done especially since taking over, and in that First season when it all looked over and out for Palace he pulled off a near miracle. And then followed that up last season with a very respectable 11th position eventhough he was not fully supported in the transfer windows by the Board.
Yes it is all too easy to point to the flaws in his management, but then which manager is error free? as even the best craftsmen will have flaws in their work if they dont have the right tools to work with, it will only be after he has gone will we appreciate what we had.

I think we have a few Brighton trolls going the wind up, and unfortunately a few who can't help responding before the common sense kicks in.

I guess we do it to them as well, it must even out somewhere.

This season really is massive. It seems as if we say it every year, but the club has to kick on now and try and break the repetitive cycle of starting off poorly and leaving considerbale amounts of ground to make up in the second half of seasons. It's dangerous and bound to end in tears eventually. For me Hodgson is 100% the pragmatic 'safe pair of hands' that the club needs in order to gradually kick on and progress especially with a seemingly limited budget. At the end of the day investment is needed to maintain last seasons strong finish let alone improve on it.

Sack him NOW before it is too late and we waste too much of the Wan Bissaka money on Woy dud signings like Carl Jenkinson.Hodgson has been a manager for 50 years at many top clubs and has never won a single trophy.Liverpool supporters regard him as the worst manager in their entire history and the scousers do know their football. If Zaha goes this team will be relegated under this ultra negative clown

Hodgson is a good manager but he is getting know backing from Freedman or the board as far as transfers are concerned.
We know we don't have a lot of money but there are bargains out there but Freedman is unable to find them. Both him and the scouting network are poor.

For example, it is common knowledge that Milan are in financial trouble and must sell players. Therefore you could pick up a talented player cheaply.
Wolves are trying to buy Patrick Cutrone for about 23M, which is a massive bargain if they pull it off.
