12 VfB players are making a privately organised one-week trip to Mallorca (that has become an annual fixture). Even players who've been released are going. Good team spirit, lots of fun.

Players report back for training on Monday, June 30.

Now here's a piece of real German FA Cup nonsense.

Lübeck's been a border town - as it was in fact the northest pole of the Iron Curtain between The Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic (which broke down in 1989). Just 10 miles east of Lübeck is Schönberg, a small village with some 4.500 inhabitants.

And there's an office furniture factory owned by Uwe Blaumann. Ambitious Blaumann had the idea of forming a football club in order to use it as a marketing tool for his company. This is how FC Schönberg came into being in 1995.

Several promotions later FC Schönberg are Oberliga Mecklenburg-Vorpommern/Berlin champions and will play-off for a place in Regionalliga Nord (actually 3. Bundesliga North) against Sachsen Leipzig next weekend.

- Ironically Lübeck and Schönberg teams aren't able to meet in competative matches at a lower level of our football pyramid simply because Schönberg are members of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Football Asscocation (former East) while nearby Lübeck teams belong to Schleswig-Holstein FA. -

So much so good.

But Schönberg have been very successful in cup competitions. Playing in green and white they did something of a Yeovil.
Humble Schönberg have made it to the equivalent of your FA Cup 3 Rd five years running (by winning the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Cup).

German FA Cup
1999 Schönberg v. Waldhof Mannheim 1:3 (1.200)
2000 Schönberg v. Bayern München 0:4 (15.700)
2001 Schönberg v. VfB Stuttgart 2:4 (3.800)
2002 Schönberg v. Hamburger SV 0:6 (5.500)
2003 Schönberg v. ???

Temporary stands were erected for the visit of Bayern München in August 2000. Nearly 16.000 saw the match in 4.500 Schönberg. Media coverage over several days and Uwe Blaumann was beaming, his company in the limelight.

Now 2003:
Tonight the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Cup Final is to be played at Schönberg's ground.

The fixture: FC Schönberg 95 and FC Schönberg 95 II. team.

What a laugh. Two teams of an amateur club meeting in a cup final.

We've once seen FC St. Pauli Amateurs beat FC St. Pauli professional side. The Amateurs advanced to the next round only to lose there. What an cruel act of club self-destruction. But this won't happen here.

FC Schönberg have registered all their players for both the 1. and 2. teams. So if FC Schönberg II march on FC Schönberg I players will perform as FC Schönberg II against a top-class professional club - home-tie already guaranteed.

Club officials say they want to have a bit of fun tonight.
Schönberg I beating Schönberg II 7:5 probably or vice versa.

Schönberg I best players are rested for Sunday big promotion game, so 4 or 5 Schönberg II players will play for Schönberg I while 5 from Schönberg III take the field to represent Schönberg II. Got that?

German FA Cup nonsense at its best.

so there you have it:
FC Schönberg I 1 - FC Schönberg II 2

FC Schönberg II to get a professional club at home in German FA Cup.

Yes, it is money, a small fee but out of the blue.
VfB Lübeck have recieved 6000 € right before the end of the season.

The reason: In pre-season build-up VfB Lübeck played Hamburger SV at Schneverdingen (training camp). HSV had signed Japanese star Naohiro Takahara. Lot of Japanese TV-stations had crews out their to watch their star. Now the minutes of these replays have been counted and the result is the above money.

By the way: VfB Lübeck entertain Hamburger SV on July 25th at Lohmühle and already six stations from Japan have been registered. I can hear the bell ring ....
