I highly recommend Cabbage Patch 10 mile run in October. Starts & finishes in Twickenham, much of the race is along the river, north bank to Kingston Bridge, south bank to Richmaond Bridge back to Twickenham, then post race refreshments in the pub.

just done lychett 10miles in Dorset.
Was the most challenging run ive ever done due to the amount of inclines, but amzing to say i knocked 5 mintues off my best 10mile time (last years GSR), down to 1.31.50 - without the hills may have got closer to 1hr30.

thats given me real hope for next weekends tunbrdige wells half.

well done on the pb - it's very nice to know the hard work does pay off!

I will see you at the Exbury 10k, I hope. I have paid anyway and one other club member here has said she will run.

Cheers

Racing might be fun.

I am still unbeleiveably slow. But getting fitter. Trouble is I am still about 4 or 5 stone overweight. If I were to enter a 10k race how quick do you have to be not to be a complete twat. Presumably I would need to at least get under the hour mark.

I am going to cut the booze down to only friday and saturdays, and try and cut down on the sweet toothed treats.....

Well done on the pb KW.

Highly satisfying 10 mile training run for me today. 5 x 2 mile laps, each one faster (or less slow!) than the one before.

Yesterday I did a 14.5k run in 1h16.30m, and tonight an 8k in 41m (2mins off my best but legs were a bit leaden). I am trying to up the miles a bit. Four weeks to the Hastings half and I think I'm just about on target for 1h50m. Need to do some serious hills over the next two weeks I think.

thats the beauty of running;WHATEVER time you do is ok!!!!

i dont think ive ever been at an event that has had a "cut off" point
(at sidcup race, the last runner finished an HOUR after me) so i wouldnt worry about your time;finishing will be an achievement....

I've only recently got into "jogging" (I would have a trade descriptions act problem calling it running). I'm up to 2 miles with a 2 mile walk 3 times a week, with walking only the other 2 evenings of the week.

I've noticed that since I've started doing this, for the first time in my life, I've been getting upper back aches, which is somewhat odd, as I've read that jogging/running is good for back problems.

I've also read that lack of good shoes/trainers can cause this, which could well be. I have New Balance, but they are meant to be specifically for walking. I'm going to buy some Asics running shoes to see if this helps. I'm also willing to accept I probably don't have the most "fluid" running style at this time of my life, and could be jarring the crap out of my spine. I do try and mainly run on dirt rather than concrete/asphalt to try and help.

I guess my question is.... has anyone else found back ache to be a problem when they started running?

I guess my question is.... has anyone else found back ache to be a problem when they started running?
why asics? forget the brand name, get to a specialist running shoe shop that will see how you run/walk etc pronate etc and advise on best ones. brand name doesnt mean jack for how good they are for you - ive wear Brookes at the moment as they have extra cushion under the heel.
regarding back, im far from an expert but may have something to do with your trainers, but COULD be your hamstrings/achilles/salus are tight.
for years i had hamstring/achilles injurys and have to do loads of stretching and physio to keep them in relative working order, but its paid off - and my lower back pains have stopped.

Good Luck
