His signing has meant Lawrence making mistakes responsible for the loss of points in at least double figures. Simon cannot be pleased at wasting his money so badly.
He's looked better than average when I've seen him for the reserves. Admittedly I've only seen him thrice but he was excellent in all of the games.

If he was better than average he would have forced his way into the first team. Blimey, playing second string to the footballer that is Matty Lawrence says a lot about your ability. Clyne always stood out as being the best of our reserve defenders in the games I saw, Wiggins and Hills also looked like they could 'make it'. Really wish Ertl had lived up to expectations we had with the hype about his international status.

More on him from the advertiser online today.

Palace misfit Johannes Ertl's hopes of securing a move to Norwegian giants Valerenga IF have been scuppered by Danny Butterfield's shock switch to Charlton Athletic.
Austria international Ertl has endured a torrid time at SE25 since his summer move from Austria Vienna, making just six substitute Championship appearances in addition to his only Eagles start in the ill-fated 4-0 Carling Cup drubbing against League One Leeds United.
Reports from Norway suggest Valerenga, managed by former Wimbledon and Blackburn midfielder Martin Andersen, are keen on taking out-of-favour Ertl to the Oslo-based club ahead of the Tippeligaen season which kicks off this month.
While transfers are outlawed in this country due to the transfer window, the Norwegian top flight's window runs from March 1 to April 30 making an imminent exit a possibility.
However, with Butterfield to stay at the Valley until the end of the season, Palace boss Neil Warnock is unlikely to sanction a move for Ertl due to the lack of defensive cover at Selhurst Park.
Nevertheless, it is looking increasingly likely that Ertl's time in south London is drawing to a close
The Advertiser has learned that two other overseas clubs have shown an interest in the 25-year-old former Strum Graz defender making Ertl's exit seemingly inevitable - though the 6ft 3ins defender may have to wait until the summer to end his SE25 nightmare.

Or maybe it says more about Warnock's preferred type of player. I.e., hoof and hope players like Lawrence.

We obviously won't agree on his ability from both having seen him, but at least we do agree on the player that is Lawrence! Warnock did have reservations about Fonte who was the most accomplished defender I have seen play for our reserves in several years.

On the very few occasions I've seen Ertl he has looked an efficient footballer. Short sharp passes (to team mates) and good work rate. I think he would be a decent holding midfielder and maybe an upgrade to Derry. Oh well.

Comley has looked to be the answer to Derry in the reserve games but has not really got beyond being an unused sub on the bench. Passing to team mates is obviously not a requirement of NWs Daddy Long or he wouldn't keep playing Lawrence and Derry. There goes another season......

When were crying out for a new centre-back why don't we just give him a chance

I think he may well get a look in, with those three away games coming up next week.
The fact that he hasn't been given much of a chance so far, should tell you something!

That NW doesn't like defenders who can pass a ball and have the slighest amount of technical ability?
