Yes, this is good point, but it's also a bit unfair. For every youth player who gets 'tapped up' by a big club, there are tens of others who are shown the door and left with nothing. It might be unpalatable to us as fans, but you can't really blame players for attempting to grab some financial security as soon as they can.

Before anyone starts the usual 'but what about their development/playing regularly' argument, there's no real evidence that any of these players would develop any better at 'smaller' clubs than they do at the big clubs. It's all just conjecture.

It's not lack of ambition, it's lack of money.
They're two different things.

In fairness, I'm sure that Sinclair didn't come out and say 'I love this club and I want to captain them one day. I'm staying here, etc.'

If Bostock had kept his mouth shut and just left us for Spurs no one would be happy, but we wouldn't be so angered at the move.

This is true. When Moses signed his first contract with us (and Scannell to a degree,) I was genuinely surprised as he hadn't made any indication of allegiance to the club and with larger, richer clubs after him, I thought he would be off. However with Bostock, after all of his quotes about just wanting to play football, be at the club he supported and one day captain Palace, I was sure he would sign with us on his 16th birthday. SJ and NW were even assured by Bostock and step father that them looking at other clubs was nothing to worry about. So when Bostock left for Spurs, trying to make it sound like Palace were the reason (I was stagnating etc,) to us fans it felt like we were being stabbed in the back and we now hold him in contempt, rather than being proud of a fantastic talent that the Palace academy nurtured.

Indeed - at the momnet the only way the club can show ambition is to sign up the best players around they don't have to pay for, and a lot of those are already in the Academy. Signing Clyne was the most the club could do. Any player will go where he can earn most - it is, as has been said, his job - but equally, as in many jobs, the sensible ones know that they will earn more in the future if they learn and gain experience in a reasonable environment. At bigger clubs you might get to train with better players, but how does that help if you never get near the pitch? It's a balancing act and if anybody knew exactly how to get it right everytime they'd make a fortune as an agent. Sadly, most agents just want to make a fortune and couldn't care about the player a few years down the line.

Good and hopefully stops them chasing VicMo and he can concentrate on having a good injury free season at palace!
