Jabulani

Have played with it and watched it being played with. It is far too light. Do others also think this or not? It is such a dull subject focusing on the ball so much in the fashion we do but I feel it important. Everytime I watch people at the WC, or indeed play here, it seems they will hit the ball over the bar. The ball just rises too much. Annoying as I think it will limit the amount of quality long range efforts we see during this WC.

Still waiting for a goal from a curling, dipping free kick.

I don't think it is 'lighter' but it does seem to have it's on special feel.

The Germans have been using it for ages, as have most other Adidas-sponsored nations. England were offered the ball a while back so they could train with it, but the offer was rejected as we have a deal with a differrent sponsor. C'est la vie.

All countries have been able to use the ball for the last five months in their domestic league... Only a few took it up due to sponsorship deals!

There really shouldn't be any difference in balls. They should be a standard size, weight and material. Happy for different World Cup logos etc to appear on it but why actually change the ball itself ? Along with fvcking vuvuzelas its become the main talking point of the whole tournament rather than any of the football played.

Oh yes, just another example of football's mass commercialisation the last 20 years.

I find it bizarre that at each world cup the ball is changed. The tournament is shown all around the world & thrust up as the greatest sporting event in the world.People tune in or turn up to see the best players perform for their country .then they change the dynamics of the game & people wonder why the players don't perform. The finals is not the time to make changes that effect the quality of the performance of the playing standard

The ball doesnt make that much difference. Anyone paid 90 grand a week to kick a ball around shouldnt be struggling.

Used it on Tuesday. It's no fun to play with - it's like those cheap plastic balls that change direction with the wind. We changed back to our Premier League ball at half time.

Played with it, I like it quite a lot. Yes its light (but not as light as people say) and it has a true feel to it very good for shooting and I had no problem with crossing or corners. This happens every world cup it's a load of crap.

We're still seeing people make 60 yard crossfield passes to an inch. And we're still seeing people over hit free kicks, corners and crosses which funny enough we saw all year in the premier league as well.

The keeper on our team is absolutely terrib,e at goal kicks, we are going to invest in this ball so he might actually get it over our back four, if it makes no difference I will conclude the ball is as good as any other. If he suddenly becomes thsi dead balll murdering sledgehammer I will cinclude the ball is lighter than dust.

Completely agree. I find it strange that the exact specifications aren't laid down in law (or maybe they are, but in which case how come the regular changes?)

True, but that probably says more about the [lack of] football that's been played as it does about the ball / vuvuzelas.

So because of sponsorship the England team were unable to play with this until they reached South Africa?

The ball never seems to dip from free kicks - you can see when the taker tries to put dip on it - the ball rises, holds position, and then keeps its trajectory instead of dipping.

The other thing that seems to happen a lot is when a defender hoofs the ball forward, there's loads of last minute adjustments from the people at the end due to the ball not following a natural curve.

The whole putting dimples on the ball idea seems to have totally backfired.

They weighed it the other day in comparison to one of the "normal/older" balls and it was no lighter.

watched Seedorf do a commentary piece last night on the ball. he seemed to "master" it after about five or six shots.

did make me wonder though that if Fifa insist on this nonsensicle change each WC they should play the WC qualifiers with the same ball, to give non-sponsor aligned teams the opportunity to play with it.

wasnt a great test by seedorf imo.

if you are used to a specific ball then if it is tridjectory (sp?), weight etc is different, then you will have to alter your game accordingly. kicking it 6 times is not a great test.
