Murray is a bit short of pace for the Prem and a notch short technically but makes up for these with street smarts and this season some good stamina. The way he has worked the CBs in this division has been a big part of his success. Credit to him for showing everyone that he deserved to be there. Before he played I had expected the pacy CBsi in this division to limit his chances but he seems to have rattled the best of them which has been great to see. I still doubt he could play a full season up front at this level but very few strikers manage that these days. He still has something to offer and if he stays will depend on the options we have. He will be a bit unlucky to drop a division again but at his age he will also want to be playing instead of watching and that will also be a factor.

Palace must be getting fed up with some of the rumours going around regarding players leaving and most of them seem to originate from the same sources.

Just because Palace are in the market for new players does not mean that first team players will be made available but try telling the media that.

Palace need to have more strength in depth to cover injuries and suspensions and now football is all about having a strong squad and not just the first team as squad rotation is the name of the game as is competition for first team places which keeps players on their toes as they have to maintain standards to keep their place in the team.

This is why players are upping their fitness levels with extra training in the pre-season like Glenn and Yannick are doing.

Alan Pardew has heaped praise on Glenn and has called him the perfect centre forward for his quick thinking,hold-up play and ability to score goals.

Soon after Glenn returned from loan he earned the contract extension that he craved as he loves playing for Palace.

This transfer rumour seems even more far-fetched than the James McArthur to Norwich
one which had no substance.

I'm not making up anything if thats what you are implying, the Murray thread speaks for itself.

When the player himself says goodbye and confims the deal is with a view to a permanent then I will believe him over the board/manager, who were trying to sell it to us as a good decision. After all, the decision would have been forgot about had Doyle worked out and AJ was pure sentiment to appease some fans. Thankfully, Reading didn't have the cash to even consider buying Murray at the end of the loan.

It's also no coincidence we were shite without him and we were heading to relegation on the Warnock express. Coming back from Injury or not, he would have offered far more than AJ did.

Can't see us selling a player who even if he doesn't start makes such a valuable contribution to the squad.

I agree. He was lucky to have not been booked 4 times in the match!

I would be dead against losing a player from a position we are already woefully short in. If nothing else he would be good back up to a decent summer striker signing. However that being said £5million is way more than he is worth and would surely be very tempting!

Apart from Warnock, Reading and Glenn Murray all confirming there was a deal in place to sell him in Jan.

Luckily Reading couldn't do it and Warnock was sacked.

Surely it is far better to secure quality replacements up front before selling Glen. Do we really need any proceeds to fund purchases?

I don't think the board would consider letting him (or anyone else in/around the first squad) go without having a significant upgrade lined up.

With us enquiring after some very expensive targets (Williams, Remy, Cabaye etc), it's likely that we are also listening to offers for Glenn and other players to help finance those deals.

5-6m for a 31 year old in return for getting Remy makes a lot of sense.

And then if Remy or whoever gets injured we are a bit ****ed.

Sell Gayle and Campbell and Keep Murray and get a new striker in.

As great as he's been for us if the reported £5m is true then that is great business I'm afraid. Given his age £5m is not an offer we should turn down & it will add to the kitty to get a top striker in.

£5m is excellent.

If it's true then we should 100% take this offer. Goes towards getting a better, younger striker in.

Then we will have Gayle and Campbell for backup (and Chamakh if we're really desperate).

I love Gayle, and ideally I'd love him to stay and be a Palace hero, but if we're going to keep one of him or Campbell to stay and be third choice, I'd rather sell Gayle because we'll get a lot more money out of him to buy a better player/s and because I want him to succeed no matter where he is.

Tbh is there any point in selling murray for 2,3,4 million? We would then have to buy another backup striker, and there arent too many players, who can score like Glenn, that would be happy too sit on the bench.

This is assuming we buy a top striker to replace glenn in the first team.
