Televised Election Debates

First one tonight.

JOHNSON v CORBYN: ITV 8pm

Consensus is that Boris just needs to play it safe, jab and shield, but take no risks, whereas Corbyn the challenger needs to get in a few big blows and rock the title holder.

Other bouts coming up...

Sky News general election debate, Thursday Nov 28, TBC (Sky News).

The BBC Election Debate, Friday Nov 29, TBC (BBC).

The BBC Prime Ministerial Debate, Friday Dec 6, TBC (BBC).

We had a one week election campaign over here - I still had to turn off the debate, half way through. Though I guess a head to head makes it a bit more confrontational and exciting.

I fancy Corbyn to effectively 'win' this. He's a more measured speaker, less emotive and not prone to wiffle and given Johnsons propensity to just lie outright, it could very well be the kind of humilation that Labour need to dish out to get over that 'Johson is a more credible / trusted leader' nonsense thats doing the rounds.

Best thing for Labour here would be for Johnson to go for some cheap oratory shots and for Corbyn to systematically take his point apart piece by piece.

All Johnson needs to do is 'stay on script' and not try to be funny, entertaining or otherwise clever and avoid lying. I expect Labour to pick up voters from the Debate, but not enough and not many, unless Boris Johnson turns in a 'Prince Andrew' style performance.

Whatever Johnson does or says in the debate, certain newspaper headlines tomorrow will describe it as the performance of a political colossus, a great statesman and leader, destined to take the country into a new era of prosperity.

Corbyn needs a massive focus on policy, how it will be paid for and compare their voting records. If he clearly sets out the difference on these three things he can win over some people tonight.Hopefully Johnson spends the whole hour doing nothing but attacking Corbyn and not offering anything positive,as I doubt that will resonate with many.

They are not getting to the crux of the issue on question 1.

She should be tacking Johnson on the fact he would have to negotiate a trade deal.

She should be tackling Corbyn on the fact he says 3 months to negotiate a new deal and within 6 a referendum. However it is about 6 months from the agreement to have a referendum

Neither can deliver exactly what they say.

I mean Jimmy Saville was a staunch Tory supporter.
