Too many missed chances to score. McArthur and Benteke first half, McArthur again, Kelly and Batshuayi second half. Not half chances but nailed on he must score chances. If the theme continues at home we will be relying on our away form to keep us out of trouble

Schlupp had another good game and Kelly showed again what a reliable squad player he is when played in his preferred position. AWB and Sakho are two of our most consistent good performance players and were good again yesterday.

Zaha started quietly and got better as the game went on. His performance went to another level after the introduction of Meyer. As well as others played the difference between us losing and drawing was Wilf, if Meyer had been introduced earlier it might have been winning

I thought West Ham were poor, the referee was their best player. An inexcusably incompetent performance but unfortunately just one of many we've had to endure this season

Poor wasnot the word Id use in the first hlf. I was glad to get to halftime and still be in it

**** me some people really do just watch the highlights and post don’t they?

Kelly great tackle so some give him motm. Jimmy missed a great chance drop him. Pva can’t pass for shit drop him.. there was another 80 mins to the game...

I’ve got 6 hours to kill in a hotel room so some thoughts on the many talking points of the game

Guaita - 5 looked ok for the most part. Some neat saves. The spill got questioned on here but look again, he’s making himself big one on one and Anderson was it? Drives the ball between his legs hard at close range and it was a good reaction save to get his hands down so fast. Poor for the pen. Not sure what that was, Antonio wasn’t doing much with the ball and he’d have been better reaslising he wouldn’t make it and staying in no mans land as that ball was going out for a goal kick.

AWB - 6 decent if unspectacular given his normal form. Harsh yellow. He got the ball but followed through so an argument for a foul but never a yellow. Certainly not 2 mins later when West Ham commuted an identical foul on wilf (which I thought was a good tackle to be fair, got the ball but a little bit of contact on wilf after and not even a foul?) just consistency. Held onto the ball too often in attack and gave away possession dangerously but not as much as Andros

Kelly - 7 played ok but never ever ever motm. Got absolutely roasted first half. Not really his fault, Anderson was unplayable first half, he had little support but didn’t do what he could. You either commit and make the tackle or block or you cut the passing lane/shot.. he did neither and they just passed around him like a static training aid! That’s the only criticism as a balance. Solid otherwise, great backup and a very good tackle for the cameras. Almost a trademark kelly tackle

Sakho - 8 actually thought he was. Brilliant. Shut down West Ham breaks before they started on numerous occasions second half and kept winning the ball back to sustain pressure. Some big big blocks and tackles first half when we were under the cosh

Pva - 7 I’m delighted for Pva. He’s been in mixed form shall we say and first half looked every bit a played devoid of confidence. Gave away the freekick for the goal and that rattled him further. Second half he was brilliant! Some of the reviews on here were written after the West Ham goal because it was one of the best turnarounds in performance I’ve seen. Solid at the back but mostly on the front foot it was like the Pva of old. Should have had three assists at least and nearly a wonder goal too. Put jimmy though one on one for one of his big big chances with a perfect ball, put bats through one on one for his big big chance with a perfect ball, floated in a delightful free kick for Kelly’s big chance.. that’s three huge chances he’s created there and was generally involved in everything good we did in that half. Delighted for him. Hopefully he can take some confidence from that and kick on to rediscover his form

Townsend - 5 worked hard but poor by his standards. Keeping the ball far too long first half he lost possession a good few times and exposed us to dangerous breaks overrunning it. We had benteke on the pitch and not once did he drive the the byline and stand it up. Always the cutback and though a few crosses not many anywhere near benteke to attack. All behind and/or high.

Luka - 6 given the runaround first half and left kelly exposed. Booked too and that limited his game though did well (and got lucky) not to be sent off. Poor free kick (just a miss kick) aside, much better in the second half both defensively and finding players in space and dominated the midfield

Jimmy - 6 horrible finishing but overall decent. Was everywhere back defending and in the box supporting attacks. Never as bad as the bbs claim but my god what a miss. Should have passed but if not must score. A good assist that will be forgotten because people are too busy jizzing over Meyer doing the similar passes but he created lots of chances as he missed them too. Like Luka lucky not to be sent off. Not his best but not awful either

Schlupp - 7.5 that’s it schluppy. The most consistent game he’s had in midfield for us. Probably our best player first half. Driving runs and a threat on the break he tracked runners, battled, supported Pva and got back into the area to defend. Much better. Less involved second half but that was his best performance in midfield and what Roy must see on the training ground

Zaha - 8 motm. He mastered his temperament into one of determination. A constant threat to West Ham. Goal was deserved but he missed three much better chances prior to that sadly. Still he looked sharp and determined and much better wider.

Benteke - 6.5 he was fine. For a player that’s coming back from major injury he was absolutely fine. Looks sharper than he has for over a year. He battled, won some battles but in truth was given next to nothing. Not one cross to attack in the entire game. A few came in behind him or way over him but nothing that was for him. It was a nicely judged move, first touch and turn that put him through on goal and despite the bitching on here he did the right thing. Across the keeper, hard and low.. last seasons he tried to side foot that in and rolled it to the keeper or sliced it 10 foot wide. That was a good sign, he picked his spot and smashed it to where all forwards are taught to put it in tight angles. Fine and we looked better for the space other players get when he pays

Meyer - 7.5 his best performance yet and the first time for me he’s really given a compelling argument to start. He does link so well with wilf and Pva in that final third and I though he was much more forward thinking with quick passes into dangerous areas. Despite the odd moment he’s been very much a sideways passer mostly until now. Good. Like to see him start against Doncaster and see if he can push on

Bats - 6.5 blistering start when I thought he was going to do it all himself. Wanted the ball and just went for it. Put through on goal by Pva it was an incredible chance and he put it wide sadly. After that he looked interested but didn’t really keep that pace going. Offside a few times and ran into a lot of West Ham players he didn’t really get another chance to show us the poacher he is (hopefully)

Great game of football. End to end first half albeit hamsters were on top and second half we utterly destroyed them. Like last time his happened we only get a point from them sadly. Some horrendous misses as the curse if anything ramps up its ability to keep us down the league but at least we didn’t hit the woodwork today eh?! Lots of players fighting for a start and that’s good to be good. A typically palace exiting, interesting and nervous time to be a fan

Pva was excellent in the second half. Some poor passing and poor defending for the penalty in the first half. He’s an excellent modern attacking full back/wing back and so much better when we are pushing forward as a team instead of sitting back.

You overlook the opposition - Anderson was the best player on the pitch - Iíve seen him twice now and he looks a top player. Once he faded, we dominated. Good performance and it shows how far weíve come - Meyer perfect sub for Jimmy Mac - would like to see Batman start

I know it's different in the Stadium than on TV but actually TBH I thought the Ref had a decent game, yeah he let a lot of things go but I think he was looking to play advantage and to let the game flow. Plus he totally let Luka off, that was a second yellow all day long. I heard the 'don't know what you're doing chant' and thought it was a bit unfair myself.

Anyway, glad Schlupp is getting the credit he deserves, felt for months he's been unfairly picked out this season. Kelly deserves all the praise for again stepping up and slotting in like he's been there all season.

It was an entertaining game but God we should've of won it, that JM miss gets worse every time you see it, keeper was on the floor and there's a massive space to his right to smash it into it.

Yeah he's great going forward and had a lovely shot 2nd half, really hit it sweetly but as we know his main weakness is giving the ball away cheaply in defence, crap clearances that go straight to the opposition.

I know I will possibly get stick for supporting the ref but At half time people around me were slating the ref but I thought he got it right generally. Luka, Jimmy & WB all caught the oppo player and whilst the Hammers rolling around the floor was overdone, they were bookable fouls. Likewise the penalty was correct. Not sure why he let Luka off the 2nd very bookable foul but very grateful he did and that positive counters any negatives for me.

A lot of people are suggesting the Ref got things about right, so you’re not the only one. I thought he was poor.
If you’re a Ref you’ve not only got to be impartial, you’ve got to be seen to be impartial. The fact that the best part of 20,000 Palace were shouting ‘You’re not fit to referee’, suggests he wasn’t giving a very good impression of being unbiased.

He gave us 9 free kicks for their fouling. He gave them 12. I would dispute that we were worst than them with our challenges, but let’s put that to one side! Were our challenges that much worse/different than theirs? I would suggest not, but he was suckered in to their rolling around antics, that’s for sure. Their players got up pretty quickly afterwards too.
We had 3 players booked, they had NONE! I’ll reiterate my point. You have to be seen to be impartial. He gave the impression of being anything but.

Almost all of that was true. but..

I thought AWB's booking was a very good tackle. I am not sure why he waited 2 minutes to stop play and give the freekick that led to the penalty.

There were a number of fouls on Palace players that weren't given but West Ham got every decision including a couple of obvious dives.

Moreover not a single Hamster was booked despite them pushing, diving, diving into tackles and hacking just as much as Palace. Yes he got the major calls right and as you said could have sent Luka off, but he was wildly inconsistent throughout the game.

Booking awb for a great challenge and then letting west ham make the exact same challenge two minutes later and not even calling a foul for example.

Very good review, particularly like your comment on PVA.

Actually having watched the 15 min highlights I think the MOS guy was not unreasonable making him our MOTM, certainly deserves more than one vote on here. Also nice skill to pass the ball to Wilf just outside the area prior to our goal. Don't really see that he was much to blame for the penalty either - it was a good ball over him and Antonio had a bit of a run on him, what was he meant to do, foul him and risk conceding the penalty himself?

PVA is definitely struggling with a lack of competition at LB. He needs somebody snapping at his heels to up his performances. He was far and away our worst player yesterday, even with better attacking play in the second half, he was exposed by Anderson and Antonio time and time again.

Made a great chance for Batshuyai (I think) and a great chance for Sakho the week before. Never been the best defender but his attacking work has still been good. If players had taken the chances more people would have noticed.

I agree that more competition would help him but he hasn't been as bad recently as some people seem to think.

The linesman gave it; the ref pointed to his ear when he awarded it and said the lino told me it was a free kick - why the lino didnt just flag im not sure.
