I believe the national curriculum was started by Margaret Thatcher, I don't think it's as sacrosanct as you're suggesting.

I see in that article he has previously admitted that he had not read the books he’d said weren’t ‘age appropriate’.

This has been a common thread re education, ie people spouting an opinion based on prejudging something they haven’t taken the effort to look into properly.

To some extent though, this BBS thread is discussion about the parents' right to protest what they believe is being taught to their children, not solely about the more specific topic of how justified their complaints might be

No the thread is not about the right to protest. The thread is about many things from the complainants not even attending said school to the inaccuracies of their complaints. i.e their beliefs of what they think is being taught is not backed up by the facts.

I wouldn’t be proud that a protest had intimidated a primary school to the extent that it shut early for half-term. That demonstrates no true regard for the children’s education and their right to receive it in a safe environment.

Those parents, although it sounds like some aren’t even parents at that school, do have other choices.
