Sorondo was very good, but Fonte was better imo.

Er.....Sorondo was at Palace for about half a season and Sakho, despite having been at the Club for about 3 years, has barely played half a season's worth of games (the p*sstaking sick note).
There was some bloke called Jim Cannon, who made his debut in 1972 and was pretty much a regular until 1988. Perhaps not one of the top, top players we have had, but very, very good and a fabulous servant to the Club.

Big John McCormick what a bargain for £1,500 and held his place for over three season's in the then first division and hardly missed a game and was in his 30s. I will never forget his goal v Sheffield United.

Didn't he come as a supposed make-weight with Tom White? Bert Head had gone on one of his weekend shopping trips to Scotland for White and came back with the two of them. Big John was certainly the better part of the deal in the end.

Fond memories of Big john and Mel standing tall in the centre of the defence. Long time ago.

Yes you are right about Tom White. And John being a make weight. They were both signed after a friendly v Aberdeen at Selhurst Park May 1966. Tom went straight into the team but John was in the reserves mainly.till.the next season when an injury to Alan Stephenson gave him his chance the rest is history. Tom was sold to Blackpool for a big profit.

Lombardo - world class and in his prime... just didn’t play enough for me due to his injuries, clearly a cut above everyone else.

Kenny Sansom - home grown, part of the team of the 80s and where my passion for palace started. The best in his position in the world. Again world class.

Ian Wright - he gets it for me. Such a special talent. As soon as we won the ball we would just boot it anywhere in the pitch. We all felt Wright would get to it first and likely score! Be it a tap in, 40 yard special, left foot, right foot or header... the sheer excitement was special. That special feeling just tips it over Kenny for me and that’s some yardstick to beat!

I find it very hard to disagree with any of this post. Wonder in years to come whether Wilf could be added to our thoughts. Once he has gone we will possibly look back very fondly at his contribution.

I look at it fondly now. If it was most exciting player then him and Wright would be locked in a spiralling duel. But it's best player, and Zaha is in the tier just below the Wrights, Sansoms and Lombardos of this world.

Exactly this. Players' imperfections normally get forgotten in hindsight - Kevin Miller aside.......

Same for me. "Best" - yes. Not with us in the best period, or for long enough, but a better quality player than any other I saw in a Palace shirt.
Won the best honours and not all for the biggest clubs in the game.
