It's the theatre that is fantastic as much as the shows - look at what's coming up.

You get real stars there - and the stage runs down the middle of the audience (which is small) so it's a really intimate and different kind of theatre.

Hazel and I are going to see FRANKENSTEIN at the Olivier Theatre @ the National on the 12th March. Going for food at the Oxo Tower first.

Frankenstein
a new play by Nick Dear
based on the novel by Mary Shelley

I followed nature into her lair, and stripped her of her secrets! I brought torrents of light to a darkening world! Is that wrong?

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

All I ask is the possibility of love!

Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is adapted for the stage by Nick Dear and realised by Danny Boyle in his return to the theatre after winning the Academy Award for best director for Slumdog Millionaire.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller will alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature.

Slowly I learnt the ways of humans: how to ruin, how to hate, how to debase, how to humiliate. And at the feet of my master I learnt the highest of human skills, the skill no other creature owns: I finally learnt how to lie.

I would say Clybourne Park is the thing to see at the moment. Very good. Just started at the wyndhams theatre transferred from the royal court.

I am going to see the heretic at the royal court, mogadishu at the lyric hammersmith, frankenstein at the national, moonlight at the donmar and winterlong at soho theatre. All sound reasonably promising.

I am not into musicals at all.. however i will be checking out woody sez at some point. I am told that the restricted view seats are 20 and as they are not selling out they let you move to full price seats.

Agreed. Saw it last week. It's brilliant. It's very clever how the actors depict the animals in costume, getting their movements down to a tee.

Yup ; one of the better shows I have seen.

Quite schmaltzy and kiddy-like : but excellent theatre nevertheless.

I was a bit underwhelmed by it if i am honest. Thought the puppetry excellent but once you get past that found the story a little dull and like you say.

Lion King.. I took my nephews a few years ago. I thought it was ok but the trip wasn't really for me. I was more disappointed by the fact the kids didn't seem that fussed by it. I would say the Lion King is primarily a small childrens show.

Agreed - my kids loved it.

If you want proper schmaltzy, go see this at the Albert Hall:

A very good friend of mind operates all the special effects for the 'Lion King'.
Not my cup of tea, but it seems popular.

I think i was too harsh. I don't think you would leave warhorse feeling short changed.. so thats a more than valid recommendation.

Indeed. Shop around though - we booked with only a few weeks notice and loads of sites were coming up with 60, 70 or whatever but we got ours for about 35 each in the end.
