.avi file subtitles not working

I have 2 avi files which are in another language. However, in amongst my par files is one called xxxxxxx.xvid.subs-retro.rar.par2

I have run all of the pars including this one through quickpar, extracted all rar files using winrar but every time I play the 2 files the subtitles do not come up. I have made sure Win Media Player is set to Show Subtitles (If Available) but am having no joy at all.

Anyone have any ideas ?

For each AVI, do you have a .idx file and a .sub file, or a .srt file?

The subtitle files should be placed in the same folder as the AVI file

and must have the same name.

ie.

das_piss_train_cumfest-4.avi

das_piss_train_cumfest-4.srt

I have .srt files - one for each .avi but neither of the others.

Have you been looking at my download history paf ?

Is it possible that subtitles will not work on Win Media Player but if the files are tried on a standalone dvd player, they would work ?

I have tried playing the .avi files on Nero Showtime Essentials and subtitles work. However, I have tried the files on a standalone dvd player and an xbox 360 and subitles work on neither.

This is a real pain as I want to watch the film on one of those. Why does Win Media Player say subtitles are set to "on" but they do not come up ?

dont think they ever will, you can hardcode the subs into the avi file though, use vobsub.

Is that a prog to download that hardcodes them ? Don't suppose winavi or nero does it do they ?

paf - very briefly how do I use vobsub to hardcode my subs ? The online tutorial is like war and peace and most of it double dutch.

I have directvobsub configure, submux, subresync, uninstall, vobsub configure, vobsub cutter, vobsub dir and vobsub joiner in my programs list. Have had a play around and none of them seem to be the program to just select the 2 files and hardcode the subs ?

Have started again from scratch and installed virtualdub and vobsub as per instructions you posted.

Problem - I have gone to open virtualdub to load the avi's into it and virtualdub is showing as a winrar zip archive file. When I right click and choose "extract here" it says -

! C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\VirtualDub-1.8.0.zip: The archive is either in unknown format or damaged

Any ideas ?
