Dry Jan 2018 - anyone doing this?

Weekend done . Friday was hardest but Saturday and Sunday a breeze. I found some lime cordial in the cupboard and had with water tonight - bloody lovely. Looking forward to feeling fresh as a daisy tomorrow for work.

Anyone else break this first weekend of the month?

I'm not doing dry January, but am taking a bit of an extended break (only a couple of weeks) just to send the body into shock

I'm doing likewise - not saying I'm doing 'the month', but just taking it week by week and hopefully the longer the better.

No problem so far, normally drink far too much but don't miss it when I give up (after the first few days). Don't normally do January but try and not drink for a couple of months each year.

I deliberately didn't start straight away as I had a child's birthday party to survive on Saturday and needed alcohol for that!

I'm doing it, bit of a break & opportunity to lose weight after Christmas. The first weekend was OK. It helps that Mr Catty (lanepe) doesn't drink.

I don't understand why people get so defensive when dry January is mentioned. I find the posts like the one below odd. The only time stopping drinking suddenly is going to be harmful is if you are seriously alcohol dependant.

I can get doing it as part of weight loss, that makes a lot of sense.

But taking a month off and then getting annihilated on Feb 1st is way worse for you than moderate drinking 12 mths a year. If you drink little enough/slow enough then your liver can process it. It's the excess that does the damage.

Same as people who abstain Mon-Thurs then drink heavily Fri-Sun. You're much better off splitting that consumption through the week.

I wasn't going to, but since I've been laid up with flu for a week, no alcohol drunk as a result, I might see it through to the end though, even once better.

When the 1st Feb happens, I won't even fancy a drink. After a few weeks, I just don't miss it.

The trouble will be when I have that first drink. Then I will want more.

Getting annihilated on Feb 1st probably not the best idea, but a period of abstinence has health benefits. The liver can regenerate if it is allowed, so a few weeks off the booze is good for it.

Always drank to much, long story.

At least Iíve never (or rarely) been a pest when drunk.

I just know itís going to start to take a toll on my health if I donít stop now.

Sorry to hear that Bryan. Good luck with stopping or if not that, moderating it more.

Doing Dry Jan and hate myself for it. Did it in October too. I tend do it for the following reasons;

1) encourages me to get back down the gym (easier to do so when not drinking)
2) gives me time to mentally reset
3) smugness.

I donít think the idea is, you stop and then instantly get annihilated! Itís more training your body. I personally donít drink during the week but do drink at weekends. I donít get drunk (I donít know how you classify drunk) but I suppose you could say I get a bit merry with it. I do feel as if I drink too much though in that period. I think there is also evidence to say that you should abstain from alcohol for at least 2/3 days a week. I would either like to either cut out one of the days (prob Friday) or reduce the amount on the three days that I do have a few drinks.

Sitting at work, starting to wobble, thinking a glass of red would go down a treat tonight.

Last night watching the game I could have quite easily grabbed a 1664 or 4 from the fridge, but resisted. Lime cordial and water is definitely the way for me at the mo although this will almost certainly get boring after a while.
