YELLOW VESTS vs MACRON

The protests against President Macron and his green taxes have been ramped up this weekend, with rioting in central Paris. Is this the start of a real problem for Macron, or just a bump in the road?

Pretty dramatic pictures.

Macron’s popularity is nose diving. His party probably won’t exist in a couple of years once the country has to go back to the polls again.

Is he back from the G20 yet and would anyone notice if the Canadian or Irish leader were sent back to rule France instead by mistake?

Neoliberalism causes riots and unrest who would have guessed , Many on this side of the channel held Macron up as a political messiah and example of what UK voters wanted lol .

So far over the three weekends of rioting , Two people have been killed , hundreds have been injured some seriously and hundreds arrested that is pretty shocking to most people .

Macron is one of those leaders who seems more comfortable strutting the world stage and endearing himself to big business and liberal lobbies than solving the problems of the lower paid, the housing estates and the regions. His priority has to be to tackle unemployment.

Which the unions object to. Because to tackle unemployment in France you need to relax the frankly mental labour laws

What started as protests against fuel increases has morphed into anti-austerity rioting .

Take power away from the workers not sure Cockney will agree with that neoliberal statement , I thought the EU mantra was all about protecting and extending workers rights not removing them .

I don't doubt that French labour laws need reviewing.

By the look of it though France is heading for trouble. High unemployment, horrendous estates on the periphery of the cities, regions being depopulated and a budget situation that isn't horrendous but far from ideal. There is clearly dissatisfaction at what they term the elite. The ECB should be very cautious at any monetary tightening or stimulus withdrawal. Far too soon.

No. Itís the Hire decision that has been challenging. If you hire someone, until recently, it was almost impossible to ever get rid of them.

The French riot if they have a right wing gov, they riot if they have a left wing gov, they riot if they have a centralist one, they riot because they don't have their own word for 'weekend' and have to use ours, they riot if they lose their funny game of lobbing balls onto gravel and so on...I wouldn't read an awful lot into it.

Macron is likely to call a State of National emergency to stop the embarrassing protests against him , How democratic to smash legitimate dissent .
I just hope the French resist and the protests spread even to other EU states to stop this relentless austerity , removal of workers rights and welfare cuts .
The French Police are on the side of the protesters by all accounts so it could get interesting if Macron try's to implement a state crackdown on legitimate protests .

The French’s president’s proposed fuel tax is just as unpopular with police as it is with ordinary citizens, and they feel uneasy having to suppress ‘Gilets Jaunes’ protests that “in their heart” they back, their union chief says.

“Most of us back the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vests), because we will be directly affected by any rise in fuel prices,” Alexandre Langlois, the secretary-general of the VIGI police union told RT France from their studio in Paris. “Most of us can’t live where we work, because it is either too expensive, or we would be arresting our next-door neighbors, so we drive significant distances.”

“Our tax contributions are going up in several areas, but there are no commensurate wage rises… It is hard to accept these cruel measures,” continued Langlois, 35, whose own law enforcement background is in border control and domestic intelligence.

The role of the police has come under intense scrutiny as the protests, which have brought tens of thousands to streets and motorways across France each of the past three weeks, have grown increasingly violent.
