At this point no. I have no doubt when ZTE has that same ban placed upon them certain other peope in Shenzhen took note and started looking at alternatives but it isnít something you simply can replace overnight.

Does that include the estimated 4.8m people in China that work for Apple in manufacturing, retail, distribution and software development?

Chinese Government are very good at taking a very long term view. If they think they win in the end then they will happily sacrifice in the short term.

They were quite happy with the 50 year 1 country 2 systems for HK in 1997 - now 2047 doesnt seem quite so far away

The whole issue is a joke anyway - Major Chinese Corporations and the state are indivisible, if Huawei were told to sell to Iran via a 3rd party - then that's what they will do.

So what you’re saying is that when faced with such a ban in April, ZTE could have simply gone to Taiwan, and that instead the shutting down of its operations and its impending bankruptcy until Xi begged trump to lift the ban, the billion dollar fine the agreed to and the US oversight they agreed to, and the fact the company is now worth about half what it was before the ban, they did all of that for the shits and giggles?

I see.

ps. To view the link you have to Register or Login

pps. Remind me, what non US operating systems exist for any mobile phone manufacturer’s phones to use in the face of such a ban. I mean android’s out, so is windows, iOS is closed anyway. Perhaps there is a secret yet at the same time massively popular Taiwanese operating system you could tell me about (Pegatron secret mobile operating software divison to the rescue, or some such nonsense).

Huawei is awful.
They built their success around ripping off IP from Juniper and Cisco and dramatically undercutting them. They then went on to work on the mobile Infrastructure and did the same thing to companies like Ericsson and Nokia, all the time fighting and twisting an turning and hiding behind the government to get a foothold in the market. There is now a concern for back door access into their own designs that can bring a country to a standstill, if true and the Chinese Government puts this into action. They claim they have no influence on Huwaei but amazingly two Canadian businessmen have been arrested in the last few days for "spying" That, to shows a pretty big influence. Oh and there is a ton of evidence that they sold knowingly, to break world wide agreed sanctions, to Iran by creating a supposed separate company.

Interesting but sanctions on Iran are in no way world wide agreed are they. they are being unilaterally imposed by the USA?

True but the dodgy dealings where prior to 2016 when the UN sanctions were in place

Sanctions were in place before 2016 but lifted so there could be overlap - however its come to light a US Government monitor sitting inside HSBC has been keeping a close eye on Huawei for a long time and following the money so to speak.

So BT and Deutsche T are reviewing future Huawei purchases, as are Orange. Only Vodafone and Telefonica left of the major European customers

There are a few background noises coming from Voda as well. They have quite a tie in with them in Newbury as Huawei have a lab there and Voda their HQ
