Coming off 'Social Media'...

Been thinking about this for a while - I genuinely think its becoming a drain on the soul.

But... The one thing I think I will miss is keeping up to date with things - news, palace team etc etc...

Anyone else just thrown in the towell? Is there a way of keeping informed without being dragged down by the all crap that goes with it?

I use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram currently.... Thinking of dicthing all 3

I use BBS and twitter but rarely post anything there.

Facebook is the evil one. Stay clear of that and you’ll be fine

Why is the BBS a drain on the soul. I mean, in comparison to supporting the actual team, it's a dream.

Twitter is a bit of a cesspit.
I miss Myspace.

The BBS is great but light on pictures on what people have had for breakfast, lunch and dinner, hence why I am also on FB.

Personally, I don't use FB or Instagram. Just use Twitter on an anonymous account just following Palace and other @'s of interest without following any friends/work contacts etc and takes out the drain of interaction.

Generally only use FB for the messenger and a professional closed group, don’t use twitter or instagram.

The BBS keeps you up to date on Palace news, you can always read the twitter post for the teamsheet or press conferences and youth games without being on it.

I am sure that social media is a massive contributory factor to the rise in mental health issues in this country.

I only use FB messenger and the BBS, I do agree with GreatGonzo though about social media contributing to a rise in mental health issues, when young people especially are comparing their own lives / looks to other people I think it can really get some people down

Take bullying at school. I am sure it was miserable if you were bullied as a kid in the nineties, but at least it stopped when you went home. With social media i would imagine it is now pretty much relentless

Don't use Twitter or Instagram and regularly disable my Facebook account. I think if you have grown up with social media always being there I guess it's a normal part of life, but for me it's a modern thing I can take it or leave it. This is the only site I really use.

I agree and many exaggerate how wonderful their life is. Posting photos about their best nights out ever, or best meals ever etc.

I’ve a young relative who will often describe people who she’s only recently met as ‘family’ or ‘besties’. She has over 1,400 friends who receive her FB posts. Many of her posts are faith-based memes, which are becoming increasingly annoying to be honest.

social media causes a rise in snowflakes which is a terrible thing. Look how paranoid the world is now.

I cope with social media by following a rule whereby when I see a shit comment by a ****wit, rather than immediately responding and getting into an argument I take a deep breath and forget about it, move on. What’s the point in engaging with wankers. Works most of the time.

Also do the same thing on Twitter as a few people here have mentioned, follow a bunch of palace related accounts amongst others just to keep up with news and comments. Feel no real need to interact.

My girlfriend closed her accounts about 6 months ago and it was the best decision she ever made.

With Facebook especially, it has gone from being a novel way to keep in touch with mates to a place full of show-offs, compliment-fishermen, bores, lechers and stalkers. She came off as it that began to become apparent to her.

I have never had a FB account, despite being at Uni in the generation where it pretty much took off. I've always hated it and have posted here about it before. The negatives way outweigh the positives imo.

I don't feel as though i miss out on anything (apart from when apps, stores and stuff demand you link to FB etc.).

I think the main social media sites are a blight on families, children, communication and attention spans.
