Nope. I didn’t judge any of the other players for them either, especially Guaita, who got absolutely slaughtered by some. I put more faith in Meyer having over 200 appearances for Schalke and Germany’s various national teams in central midfield, than two poor cup games (Grimsby and Boro, he was fine-decent in the rest).

To expand on this a bit I guess, and give reasons for why Meyer should play in central midfield outside of his previous pedigree, I just don’t see how wide midfield plays to his strengths. He can link up play nicely and dribble a bit, but he’s a man we want on the ball, so he can spread and dictate play. He can’t really do that out wide. We struggle to keep possession so much at times, and Meyer in midfield finding pockets of space and making sensible passes, not silly ones which some of our players are prone to, would be of great help. Furthermore, his defensive contribution appears much maligned on here, but last season in the Bundesliga he was number one in the league for interceptions. I appreciate that the Prem is a tad bit faster, but he has to be in the middle of the park if we want to see this part of his game.

Not just the next game but also the next league game. No way can we continue with Benteke.

Exactly.

If we had room for him in a free role behind a striker it would be great but alas....

Couldn't agree more. At least playing at home where we struggle to score.

Yes, a neat passer and obviously creative, but too easy to dispossess. Thatís why he doesnít start. And obviously not a Roy signing.

I eagerly await GreatGonzo and his library of stats to verify if this is true or not.

Starting to think so tbh. Not a 4-4-2 player whatsoever.

Exactly. We all know Roy plays a 4-4-2, so why sign a player that can’t fit the formation. Pretty much sums up our scouting/recruitment structure. Obviously got blind sided by his name and pedigree. Should start against donny though

So agree, I was so disappointed to find both wouldn't start, and after the usual appalling finishing..Aghhhhhh. When they came on what a difference. For goodness sake Roy, there are only about 12 games left, we have paid enough, use them!

Our strike force have had most of 2/3's of season to score goals. How much longer do we waste, being kind and 'giving them a chance'.

Play him more regularly with Zaha and let them develop an understanding and bonding. Very hard for that to happen in just short spells.

Fantastic player who we need to be doing all we can to get the best out of him.

I'd argue that we were so on top and continuously so far up the field by the time he came on that he was effectively playing in the hole behind Batshuayi rather than in a conventional midfield role.
