My favourite live game was in the 1974 World Cup (we should have been there but for a ball squirming under Peter Shilton and an amazing display by Jan 'The Clown' Tomazewski, but I digress).

Italy v Haiti in the Munich Olympic Stadium, mostly for the amusement value. Italy were undefeated in about 20 games and Dino Zoff hadn't conceded a goal for about a dozen of them. Just after half time, the Haitians broke away and actually took the lead, much to the joy of most around. Normality was resumed by the end (Italy won 3-1), but for a while people were dreaming of a real shock.

Same here basically. It was the first real game of football I had seen (we didn't have a TV). The games teacher showed us this on a reel to reel before we ever set foot on a pitch as an introduction to football.

I was pretty hooked after watching that, but I'm not sure if the games teacher was expecting us to go out an emulate what we saw on the screen!

Pretty much downhill from then on out as I thought every game was going to be like this one.

Just remember Steve Walsh and Wrighty having a major spat at the end of that game. Bergkamp was unplayable for much of the 97/98 season.

Wimbeldon 1 Liverpool 0 F.A Cup final 1988. Team I played for had fair smattering of scousers red and blue. Watched the game at one of the blokes houses. All the talk was of doing the double and how many they would win by. When Beasant saved the pen they knew the gig was up. As the only Londoner in the room I found it all highly amusing.

As for classics the Italy 4 West Germany 3 semi final at the 1970 World cup was a brilliant game.

Brazil 2 Paolo Rossi 3 1982

A tragedy that. Best team at a World Cup for 12 years (Holland a close second), a beautiful incredibly skilful team, got knocked out by the Azzuri and their only 3 efforts on goal. The days when the tournament was much more exciting as we hadn't heard of the players before the kick of apart from Zico. Then bam! Eder, Junior, Leandro, Falcao, SOCRATES, Cerezo.....

How about - same world cup, Brazil (fresh from their superb team of 1970), being trounced by the Cruyff and Neeskens great Dutch team ?

If you limit it to games you were actually at, I'd say either England 4 Netherlands 1 in Euro 96 or Arsenal 3 Man Utd 2 in 1997 (Arsenal were two up, Sheringham - who'd joined Utd from Spurs and was therefore hated by the Arsenal fans - scored two to level the scores, but David Platt got a late winner).
