5 Subs Next Season ?

I think this is still yet to be voted on - perhaps it will be done once the Championship playoff winners are known (?) - but how do people feel about this ?

Personally, I think it might be the final straw for me where the PL is concerned.

It just so completely loads the dice in the favour of the already bigger clubs that already have massive financial advantages over the rest of the league.

It will also just encourage the bigger clubs to hoard more up and coming talents on golden handcuff deals. I had hoped that with the proposed limits on the number of loans the bigger clubs could loan out would level the playing field, but this proposal just completely distorts it once again.

There was a 33 point gap between the top 4 last season and the Guardian reported yesterday that there was an average 45 point between the top 10 during the last 10 years, whereas it was an average 35 points the 10 years before. How more unequal do the PL want the league to become ?

Personally, if the rest of the league don't vote against this proposal then I just think my already dwindling interest will be completely gone with the PL.

I thought it had already been confirmed as carrying over into the next season. I could be wrong, though.

I think the PL are still yet to confirm

You would imagine it will be voted down by majority of clubs

I would think this won't get ratified as it puts all but the top 6/7at a disadvantage.

I don't understand the justification for it if they do. Would be horrible, unfairly benefit the big clubs and lead to more hoarding of players to fill bigger benches.

If the PL goes to five subs, I think the question fans should be asking is, "why do you hate competitive football?" It's that simple for me.

How about 5 subs but 2 of the subs have to be under 19 and have been at your academy for a minimum of 5 years and must also be English/ Homegrown.

Benefits Teams can make more changes, academy players get a chance to play, the English National Team might get a bit of a boost from it (Maybe extend it to home nations)

Yes top teams will potentially still have an advantage but for me its the only half fair way to allow 5 subs

And only if there is an "r" in the month...

Why over complicate it... 3 subs from 5 (not 7) was fine.

Being an old fart, I would be OK with just one sub sitting on the bench, and he would only be called upon if a player broke his leg and couldn't continue...

Not sure if anyone saw The Big Match Revisited over the weekend but they showed Liverpool v Ipswich from 1977 when there was only 1 sub. Mick Mills absolutely laid out Steve Heighway cold and 10 minutes later he was finally stretchured off with a waiting David Fairclough ready to come on. Fairclough thought he got the nod from the linesman to come on only for the ref (Peter Willis) to book him for coming on without permission!

To be fair to the ref, he did give us a free kick which Harkouk scored from vs Rotherham on an earlier edition of TBMR for the goalkeeper transgressing the 4 step rule :-).

Oh for the old days.

Anyway, 3 subs is plenty.
