I can't think of many.
No not simple, often the assistant who takes over is a number 2 right hand man rather than a carefully selected person with the right attributes and has already had a decent time in management.
Roy suits us as did the previous similar guys we donít have a lot of money, lack possession in games but get the max by organising and man management.
Somebody and learn and assist not just be a coach or a number 2?

But there is no evidence of that working. Leicester tried it once. It was Cotterill wasn't it? It was a disaster.

If it was that simple don't you think more clubs would already do it?

What person who already has good experience in management is going to come and be a coach here for a year first?

They would have to work alongside Roy and Ray.

Not Cotterill? One failure and you wouldnít try it here? Our manager appointing and retaining record has of course been unblemished so why try anything different.

Lower league managers donít get a go at the Prem unless they are promoted so I think the right package to the right guy would be agreeable.

As Roy has signed a one year extension to his contract, so he will be here until the end of next season minimum.

Any talk of who his replacement will be is futile, as a year in football is a long time and many managers stock may go up or down, ie Howe was talked of as Arsenal or England manager, but against us he was clueless and close to tears.

My posts are about getting someone in to work with and succeed Roy when he goes

For a start contracts mean very little, all it means is we will pay him for the next 12 months.

If the rumours are true and Dyche decides he has had enough at Burnley and wants out in the summer and we want him we would be mad to turn that opportunity down because Roy has another 12 months. In a years time, Roy will possibly go and we will be looking for who is available having watched the man we want move to a different club.

So i guess it depends if Dyche is viewed as the right man or not. Ultimately we have the oldest manager in PL history, we need to bring in the right person and if that is in the next 12 months we probably need to take that opportunity.

If Pochettino wanted to come to Palace, would people really turn that down because Roy has another 12 months? (Am aware Pochettino is not likely to want to come to Palace)

Employing a manager to keep you from being relegated seems to lack any ambition.

Having said that, to do otherwise could lead to a Malcolm Allison situation... which having lived through once might not be a bad thing.
Personally think it's very unlikely there is a next level for us, besides the occasional cup run and top 10 finish, unless we get a billionaire owner.

I'm not actually being pessimistic when I say that, as I think we're in a much better place when you compare us to the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth etc.

I guess we could change our business model once this category A academy becomes more established, and we can become a team that provides kids with a clear path to the first team of a Premier League club. That to me is actually very exciting, much more so than spending loads of money to compete with teams in the European places and it potentially not working out (again, see West Ham, Everton too).

Until then I'd be more than happy for a manager of the calibre of Dyche to stear us through the next 3-4 years.

Palace thought they had the perfect young Manager with Freedman. Anything can happen in football, (especially with CV19 around). We'd all love to plan a strategy for getting a new Manager, but it can just come down to who's available on the day.

I always watch Burnley when they are on TV to get a feel what SD would be like. I have no doubts he'd keep us up but the football is terrible (really terrible) . I'm on the fence about him .

Couldn't think of anybody worse in his current guise. The bloke seems hell-bent on causing a rift wherever he turns. He'd be looking for his next target the minute he walks through the door and reminds me of a little Silverback looking for somebody to challenge all the while.
