The 'weed paid £22m for Adam Webster from Bristol City. City fans I know are laughing hard at this. Webster played in our 5 nil demolition of them 2 weeks ago. Man Utd had their pants pulled down for Maguire, another player we've scored for fun against whilst at Hull and Leicester. Cahill is a class player and is fit, and not too old for a CB either. He will be fantastic cover which we will need whilst we bring through or find younger blood longer term.

I'm looking forward to this season.

Yup. And it's not because he's suddenly shite, it's because they changed management and style of play and Sarri kicked him into the long grass. Now Chelsea, a CL club, have better options.

Us being in London is a massive help as we are able to pluck from Chelsea and Arsenal at important times. These two clubs and their inflated squads have been a massive reason for our survival as a Prem team.

Indeed. And they had no pace between them.

They did, however, have peak Kante in front of them. Which had a lot to do with it. We don't have that, so we'll sit deep and compact in 2 lines of 4 and rely on Wilf to take us up the pitch.

I don't remember what the BBS was like about Ruddock signing for us. I assume, judging by the reaction to Cahill the place would have gone into full meltdown.

Don't give away our tactics. Next you'll be advertising that Townsend likes to cut back in on his left foot & shoot.

What are you expecting? Last season was our largest points haul for a 38 game season. We collapsed vs the weed and had we not done so, had we mullered them as we'd expect to, plus a result or 2 going our way (maybe VAR will change that with Wilf) then we were right up the league.

1 point more up 1 place. 3 points more into the top half, 6 points more into 8th, and Wolves made it into the Europa with only 8 points more.

Contrary to last season I have some faith in Benteke. From pre season he does look more like the tekkers we paid for, he's making the runs and getting on the ends of crosses. And I think we'll make a couple more signings. So yeah, I AM looking forward to the season as after many years failing we are a decent Premier League team.

Good signing. Hodgson type of player.

Less chance of Roy walking now.

Unless the guy has lost it physically, this is a solid signing. Certainly better at defending than the current England back line.

That's all fair enough but we have lost the best right-back in the league and a striker who scored 5 in 11 for us. Without replacing them, which we won't, it's hard to expect a similar performance. It's lower mid-table for us at the moment, barring some unforeseen gems coming in before Thursday.

Those that say 'what are our scouts doing' etc etc. Maybe they have scouted loads of players and consider Cahill to be the best available?

In recent seasons if either Tompins or Sakho were injured we always got away with it. If both Tompkins & Sakho are injured, Kelly playing alongside Dann, Inniss, Wood or Reidevald simply will not be sufficient. (I know Kouyate can theoretically play CB but Roy does not seem keen on that).

Therefore to bring in Cahill on a 2 yr contract looks an excellent move. I am hoping that over the next 2 seasons Wood can step up to become 4th choice but he too will need quality around him to school him.
Spot on. Also regarding Kelly - in a squad of high earners his wage is probably low or reasonable and he can be left out but step in. His errors are much less than they were in earlier seasons.

Woods and the other youngsters can be monitored and if they are unlikely to make the grade we can look at bringing in some younger talent through the transfer market and see if Dann wants to stay as 4th choice or potentially get a small fee for him.

Right backs aren't the biggest game changers, he's very replaceable, and indeed Joel Ward would walk in no problem anyhow. Joel even out scored AWB last season despite playing a fraction of the games and despite playing out of position sometimes.

We're about to acquire Camarasa in the midfield. Meyer is looking good. I am sure we'll get a RB in as first team or cover. Wickham is being touted about the Championship so we might be making space for a striker too.

I was a bit non-plussed at first but I've some round to it. He definitely strengthens the squad and probably strengthens the first team.

Could also be seen as 3 in 10 bar the dead rubber of a last game where the two sides just went gung ho and forgot about defence (with the caveat of one of those goals was top drawer)

Bats didnít actually change our season as people thought he would and so isnít necessarily Ďtheí solution. To put him in the same bracket for us last season as AWB is a little enthusiastic for me.

Cahill is a solid signing and should be the first of three I would say. Iím not getting excited, just not as doom and gloom as you
