Worlds richest clubs

Apparently Palace are 30th on the worlds richest clubs list. Think that’s down from 26th last year

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Edit: Think if AWB sale was included we might have squeezed into top 20

Yeah, but they've put the price of beer up in the Arthur so maybe we will move up the rich list again.

I'm not sure where the figures come from. It states that our revenue in 2017/18 was 169m and 174.5m in 2018/19.

Our turnover in 2017/18 was 150.3m. As they mention that the sale of AWB will be included in next year's edition we should add-on the profit we made on the disposal of players of 2.4m making a total of 152.7m for 2017/18.

I have no idea what the difference is.

Sale of garden gnomes?

Since being back in the Premier league the club has had @ a 1 billion turnover.

Would be nice to have something tangible such as a first grade youth academy or a shiny new stand to reflect this windfall and not just piss it all up against a Benteke shaped wall.

Look on the bright side Everton are in the top 20 and made a loss of 113m

Edit: and if AWB not included in ours then their summer biz won’t be and they spent more that they sold in the summer so that could be looking even worse

Reading the report in detail it states that transfer fees are excluded so the profit we made on AWB is irrelevant.

Also the article on football.london shows our revenue as 174.5m whereas the Deloitte report states €174.5m. That explains the difference.

The title of the survey is misleading as it only applies to the top 10, then it should change to 'Clubs with the highest turnover'.

As we well know, income doesn't necessarily translate to wealth in football so we are not the 30th 'richest' club in the world.

I would imagine its incremental income across a number of commercial areas. Being in the Prem for as long as we have will mean we can drive better terms from commercial partners. ManBetX pay us 6.5m a season for instance.

This is exactly what I thought. What utter bollocks it is, when the authors of the article don't understand the (very basic and fundamental) difference between wealth (i.e. 'riches') and income.

The two are hugely different, especially in the Premier League where inflated wages mean that clubs even with quite high levels of income may not be particularly 'rich'.

The report by Deloitte actually states:

Quote:
Welcome to the 23rd edition of the Deloitte Football Money League in which we profile the highest earning clubs in the world’s most popular sport.
They also acknowledge that there are a number of ways to value clubs:

Quote:
There are a number of metrics, both financial and non-financial, that can be used to compare clubs including attendance, worldwide fan base, broadcast audience and on-pitch success. In the Money League we focus on clubs’ ability to generate revenue from matchday (including ticket and corporate hospitality sales), broadcast rights (including distributions from participation in domestic leagues, cups and UEFA club competitions) and commercial sources (e.g. sponsorship, merchandising, stadium tours and other commercial operations), and rank them on that basis.
Just ignore the more lurid headlines in other articles reporting it.

Presumably they asked the club. Basically if we pulled our finger out the accounts could have been published by now, but draft figures would have been available.

Your local council has 4 months after the year end to publish its audited accounts and I can assure you they are a lot more complicated.

At Man City the difference would be called a rounding error!

Agree with the sentiment that the wealth as measured in this article is largely illusory. As VE says, wages eat up TV income, leaving us with little "profit". The high wage to turnover ratio we have is what's really hitting our disposable (ie transfer) income. That's why we don't spend in my opinion, not because we are actually particular frugal. The deals for Wilf, Mama and Christian Benteke clearly show that we aren't.
