I remember as a kid when it tried to flatten the penalty areas at half time our game as kids was to try and throw a monkey nut in through the window!

Len Chatterton soon cottoned on which group it was every week.

Got a distant memory from about 78/79, when the flatterer or a car of some sort getting pelted by supporters with the dark orangey sand that used to line the side of the pitch.

Have a dreamt that or can anyone else recall?

I think the 'dark orangey sand' was similar to the stuff used to play on then at my tennis club. Known as 'en tout cas' it was a sort of fine red brick dust (how appropriate remembering what SP used to be) which when well rolled had a very firm surface.
