If we were going to play an extra player I think we'd be better served playing Guaita behind Hennessey.

Annoying about Michy as this would be a great opportunity to give him a start. Stick with Benteke and hope this is a turning point in his form.

Id rest Luka and Andros for this.

Cup tied. I did explain it but Neil the Eagle deleted it because he wants you all kept in the dark.

Ok thanks but I thought he was only cup tied if had played in the cup but this clearly isn’t the case?

Fake news. He’s not cup-tied but Chelsea do need to give written permission for him to play. However, FA rules prevent player on “short-term” loan from playing against parent club. So ineligible should we ever be drawn against Chelsea this season. Perhaps those promulgating this theory would care to provide copy of relevant rule?

I hate this rule the FA should just say if you allow a player to go on loan they can play against the parent club unless not chosen.

Wouldn't the written permission usually be included in the loan agreement?

Given the haste with which the deal was agreed I doubt FA Cup was at the forefront of anyone’s mind. Whatever the case, a copy of the written permission from Chelsea saying in terms that they agree he can play in the Cup must be received by FA by noon on Friday.

He did, he played in the copa del rey, which is a cup.competition that leads to European qualification. Therefore under the new law issued by the authorities, he is cup tied.

Still fake news. In this internet age it should be the easiest thing in the world to find a copy of the relevant rule. Perhaps you would care to enlighten us by providing chapter and verse?

The FA rules are easily found on the FA website under “Rules of the FA Challenge Cup Competition”. Regulation 15 covers “Provisions Concerning Players”. 15 (j) covers “Temporary (loan) Transfers “ 15 (j) (i) provides that players on a domestic loan (including from Welsh clubs which compete in the FA Cup) are ineligible to play unless the lending club gives written permission. 15 (j) (4) states the FA will not give permission for players on loan to play against the lending club.

15 (e) provides that no player shall play for more than one club in the competition in the same season.

There is no reason for UEFA to interfere in domestic regulations. The only potential rationale would be because cup winners qualify for Europa League. Given that players are allowed to play for more than one club in League games which could also lead to European qualification, it would be illogical to apply a different rule to cups. Finally, in England two cups offer a route to Europa League qualification. Therefore, the fictional UEFA rule would prohibit a player from playing in both League and FA Cups - even for the same team

I just want to see bentekkers and michy up top together. The rest don’t really mind but not too many reserves as don’t want to risk ballsing it up. Feel another cup final in my bones

Quite a difficult balancing act For Roy this one.

12 hugely important league games to come and we obviously don't want to risk injuries to key players.
On the other hand it is a great opportunity to reach the quarter finals. The fact there will be no replays complicates things further as he has to ensure he names a team he believes can win on the day - there is no option to bring them back to our place.

I would probably play Hennessey in goal (if he's not not suspended - when is his hearing?)

Then in front of him, something like:

Ward Kelly Dann PVA
Meyer Luka Schlupp
Townsend Benteke Ayew

Don't think we should be risking Tomkins or Kouyate back too early. Sakho is also too valuable and hurt himself on Saturday.

However if we are without Kouyate I think Luka has to play - I wouldn't trust Jairo alone to anchor the midfield.
Jimmy certainly needs a rest and I would keep Michy on the bench to ensure he's fresh and fit for the league games - he's too important to us not to.

Bench of Guiata, Woods, AWB, Jairo, Kouyate if fit, Michy, Wilf or Lumeka (depending on whether Wilf is available)
