The irony here is he'll back at The Andrex next year playing for Sunderland.

Interesting that he played in the 5-1 defeat to Spurs. But not in their outstanding performances (which have saved them) against Citeh, Cardiff, Chelsea and Manchester United.

They are staying up, but he clearly wasn't the cause of it!

Its not always that simple though, has his arrival had an affect on others?

Arguably our best signing this year has been Wayne Hennessey, who has never played for us. His impact was to make Speroni player of the year.

Yes, an injured Bridcutt inspired Sunderland to get 10 points from 12, including 7 from the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

Besides, the point was people were saying he would improve them with his presence. Yet their best results have come without him in the team

What a very odd thing to correlate.

Why pick that and not say Connor Wickham scoring handfulls of goals?

Not picking at anything.

All I am saying is that people on this thread were saying Bridcutt would improve them. But since he's joined, they have better results without him than with him.

Doesn't make him a bad player. He's just not one that got away (twice)

How?

Even if he has not improved Sunderland, that doesn't necessarily mean he would not have improved us. His pass success when playing for Sunderland has been 82.4% where Colback and Cattermole both have better completion. With us it would make him our best passing CM. His stats defensively put him above KG but behind Jedi and Ledley.

IMO he would be a better player for us than KG, but that is guesswork and is likely never to be proved one way or the other. Not sure he can be classed as a bullet dodged though.

People writing off a player who joined a struggling Premier league club in Jan?

Give him a season then make up our minds.

As others have said a few of their players finally finding their feet in this league (eg Wickham) will have played a huge part.

Id also invite people to look at Sunderlands results with both O'Shea and Brown in the side and then results where 1 or both is missing. I saw an article from a couple of games ago and their ave points per game was over double when they both play! No surprise they have both been available in recent weeks.

He came off the bench and played in 2 of those.

You know the point I am making. Some on here were suggesting he'd play a big part in keeping them up. But in all fairness, he hasn't, has he? He's started in one win and 6 defeats (in his 8 starts).

Next season is the season to judge him at this level, I was making a point (slightly tongue in cheek) that he has not contributed to this season's change in fortune

PS: Yes, he came on v Cardiff. With 6 minutes left when Sunderland were 4-0 up. his 16 minutes v Manchester United a little more important perhaps.

6 minutes left plus injury time. Important minutes unless you think it is impossible for a PL side to throw away a 3/4 goal advantage in 10 minutes!
