Bent / Cole etc are a complete waste of money, still think the way forward for us is youngish championship and below players who we can develop and sell at a profit.

Chris Kiwomya - Or am I getting confused, that former Watford player that missed by a yard for Scotland. Dirty fouling git.

(Although Bent is a quality player) I completely agree with this.

Look at Norwich, Swansea, Southampton didnt make any of these types of signings.

Part of the silver lining to losing on Monday would be not having to be linked with players like Cole.

On his day, a decent player. But on a wage he'd want and we'd have to pay? No thanks

Owners have clearly stated that those clubs' models are what they're going for. I'd expect any signings to be cream of the crop Champs players with potential.

There's more chance of the queen being spitroasted by the linesmen on the Selhurst Park pitch on the opening day of the season than there is of Darren Bent signing for Palace. Get real people.

IF he were on a sensible wage, this would be a fantastic signing for us. Do people remember the last time we went up? We signed a donkey from Hungary and a South American with a mental problem. Oh and Freedman grabbed one goal in 22 appearances.

On a sensible contract this would be an immense signing, we have no chance.

Agree. Although there is strong talk of AJ joining. Very similar but older! He also has a worse injury record.

Only on a pay as you play deal, so it wouldn't be the same.

I would hope we steer well clear of Carlton Cole in any future transfers we make.

My West Ham mate describes him as "unplayable on his day", I pointed out he doesn't have too many days like that though.....
2 prem goals this season and only managed 15 in their promotion winning season despite the fact most of their squad were prem players anyway. No thanks

His last really good year was about 4 seasons ago. No way would Parish allow money spent on such a player.

Rodriguez - £6m
Ramirez - £12m
Yoshida - £3m
Clyne - £2.5m
Mayuka - £Undisclosed but probably in the millions

Plus a few others, overall they spent around £25m in fees when promoted which put them in the top handful of clubs. There is reason the Chairman and manager are talking of walking out in a disagreement with those who control the Trust that owns the club.

So Bent, a 20 goal a season man in the Championship and a 15 goal a season man in the Premiership if playing regularly Vs Rodriguez, a 15 goal a season man in the Championship and failed to make double figures this season.

If all things were equal, fee and wages which would you take and hope would score the goals to keep us in the Premier League? For me it is all about the demands of some of these players but for the right fee if thy will sign for the right wages, there are some players who will do a good job for us.

I think there is a lot to be said for a player who has played in, experienced and especially succeeded in the Premier League over a player who whilst has shown potential in the Championship would be a gamble in the PL if wages/fees are similar.

Very true and in general not in the same league as Norwich or Swansea. However only Ramierz was silly money. Plus those players mentioned are young and will at least have re sale value etc.

Rodriguez, only started a few games most of which near the end of the season. He is also very young and will get much better. Personally think hes a fantastic player.

For what its worth Bent is quality too and scores goals for fun - was more referring to Cole, AJ types.

The overall principal (one that RN employed successfully) I think is spot on. However given the riches on offer a little short-termism combined with it for players if they are available for the right sort of price could be a good move.
