Yep. Looks like his creativity is based on keeping ball in tight spots and finding short range intricate and swift 1-2s. Ideally suited to being behind front man/duo. Wasted (bit harsh), let's say not going to be as effective in other posoitons, although his ball retention wld make him somewhat useful in any position

Sure Roy has said in a interview a while back that he feels Max hasn’t the physicality to play centrally in the top flight.

What the position he spent most of his last few years at Schalke career in the left wing?

He played as a deep lying midfielder for one season and was good at it. He was good out on the left when played as a 10 the last time he did it three seasons ago he struggled by all accounts. Ray has said 10 is not his position and Max does not think he can do it

I agree with this. We need players who can retain possession, I would like to see us persevere with a midfield 3 of Luka/Jimmy, Kouyate & Meyer.

If you're telling me he can't get into a midfield three over Kouyate, Luka and McArthur then I'm baffled. He's the best technical player of the three and we need a better balance in the midfield. I'd play Luka and Meyer and then one from Kouyate or McArthur.

Possibly. But until or unless he plays there we can all only guess how well he'd do that role. You don't know he'd be great there.

Unfortunately Roy is right, MM is an excellent technical player with good body movement in tight positions also has decent vision for the pass but nothing outstanding. But there are some important ingredients he lacks which is needed for an attacking central midfielder to be most effective, like strength on the ball to fend off players and the ability to burst through into a scoring position like Loftus-Cheek did due to his strength, and it is that where he lacks the physicality that Roy refers to that would make all the difference.
I am a big fan of MM and is the type we have needed to be part of the squad but does he slot in as a starter that will improve a Four man midfield system that RH favours, so is he a starter? is the big question RH faces. as most fans would desperately want to see MM in and bringing that little bit of flair into the team.
Possibly the answer may lay in bringing him on earlier say at 55/60 minutes to add flair to turn around a situation if required, that is why i have always said someone like Bradley Dack would be ideal for our midfield, he also has what MM offers but in addition adds strength to his game, which helps to fend off players and gets into scoring positions and is prolific at scoring.

We were still losing. With 1 minute left to play. Hardly surprising. Wasn't going to waste a minute th Ming over to the fans in that situation!

He clearly can, countless small players have. Less ‘can’t play midfield in top flight,’ more ‘can’t play midfield in my system.’

Unlike those man-mountains Silva and Modric ?
RH is just full of these meaningless 'axioms'. Neither Benteke or Wickham can manage more than (a late) 15 mins.:wallbash
Here's a radical idea, how about we test that one by giving them a half-hour ?
Or will that have to wait until April ?
I think he is not bothered about bringing in a new striker, because he knows he will come under immediate pressure to use him - rather than leave him on the bench for a month or two.

Probably as surprised as us - he didn't score any out of 10 in the pre-match shooting drill and probably only got 2 on target!

Pleased for him though. Still think his best is yet to come. Maybe like other foreign arrivals it might not be until next season though.

I get depressed every time Roy doesn't pick him ... We do best when we play attacking football ... He should start in every home game at least!

I get frustrated at seeing Ayew start and MM on bench. Frustrated that our starting 11 basically stays the same apart from ayew over Meyer. We now have 2 fit CFs who could start instead of Ayew. Yes not match fit but wont grt natch fit eith dplinters up their arses on the bench. Jimmy Msc is a good player but needs a rest and meyer can replace him. Did i say frustrated.....perplexed and sometimes angry

Thank goodness Roy was never manger of a young Lionel Messi , Meyer is our most technically able player, but because he isn’t 6ft plus and clumsy like Kouyate Roy don’t rate him, sums up Roy as a manager really.
