Steve Parish getting some great exposure for Palace as both a club and as a business. It helped on Sunday that John Pienar is a life long Palace fan but who's complaining.

For me the bigger question is if we leave the EU will Bosman become a thing of the past? A return to players being forced to stay with their clubs when their contracts expire.

If anyone has forgotten, back before Bosman if the club and player could not agree a new contract the club retained the player's registration and could refuse to release it unless a club paid a fee.

Some players went to tribunals but more often than not the prospect of 6-12 months without a club while it all got sorted out led to a player agreeing a contract.
Think back then club had to match or better your current contract or you could leave on a free think Jerry Murphy did this and went to Chelsea as noades wouldn't match his previous contract.

No doubt this was better for clubs

With the uk the only county outside of the EU who could resist implinebt this, I wonder if this would put star players off from coming to the uk

It’s much more lucrative for the player and agent to let your contract run out under busman rulings and pick up a massive signing in fee that previously went to the club.

Fair play to the club for taking the full allocation at Donny. Well done to whoever out of the executive chairman and chief executive made the decision.

I would say Murray and Mandanda were forced sales because they wanted to leave. As for other players they my have wanted to leave but nobody would buy them.

I think one of either AWB or Zaha will leave in the summer and Sakho as wants Champions League football.
I’ll take up your Sakho bet.

"But you seem to imply it is so easy to just find a site somewhere and plonk down a new stadium. No recent builds have been done without significant local authority backing and until very recently, the club has had next to none from Croydon, and open hostility from Bromley. "

From my recent involvement in community groups surrounding the CP triangle, I would offer a slightly different perspective. Croydon hasn't always appreciated the benefits of having a club in the Borough. Now CPFC are in the Premiership, that meant the club had a lot more kudos.
Bromley inherited CP Park from the GLC in 1986. The Park was, and still is, a huge money pit and liability. Bromley were keen to have a (Premiership) football club within their Borough, which would also bring significant funds for park improvements. (google CPP Masterplan).
The Crystal Palace Community Association are against any development to the Park, and have consistently threatened protracted and costly litigation against any proposals submitted.
Hence why the Masterplan was dropped and also the multiplex cinemas and rebuilding of the Crystal Palace,..and probably why CPFC stalled at the feasibility stage for a new stadium in CP Park

Neither will Sakho unless we qualify.

He is one of those players who has found a niche and gets paid a fortune so what the f*ck would playing in the Champions League bring to the party?

We're building a tight squad and we really don't need to fear that players are going to piss off to seek "glory" in the CL.

Was it the bowman rule that helped Michael Hughes or was that after that, I seem to remember (but may be wrong) that his registration was held by one club and and his contract was with another.

Odd view.

Why wouldnít a footballer want to play at the highest level. Such a short career; I would have thought anyone decent enough would jump at the chance of playing in the Champions League or challenging for major honours.

Depends on the game time given. No point in going somewhere like that and sitting on the bench. Being appreciated and earning enough so that your family (and potentially generations to come) donít ever have to worry about money will always be a huge draw. Not to mention being loved at your club

He's a French international. The only reason we have him is the doping agency cockup where they banned him incorrectly. If a CL club come in it'll be a real fight to keep him.

You appear to be totally mis informed, players from the EU will still be able to come here no problem, under the terms of the current proposal. It the players from outside the EU, that will have far more difficulty coming here.

Maybe some more unicorn Brexit thinking from Mr.Parish but basically sees no reason why we can't open up freedom of movement that currently means any European players can play here without work permits, to the rest of the world. Perhaps Perri is just the start of our plan to hoover up young players from all around the globe.
SP a Brexiiter who wants to open up freedom of movement.

Lots of Brexiteers are in favour of more liberal immigration policies. The thing that is important is that the UK sets and controls its own immigration policy.

Hughes was a very odd situation in that he was loaned from Wimbledon to Birmingham, with some conditions around buying on promotion included, which duly happened. However, he'd gotten injured quite early in the loan - playing only three games, and as such Birmingham refused to buy, but Wimbledon didn't take him back. They then both had a dispute over the deal, Hughes was forced to sit on the sidelines for a year, and then we picked him up.
