Has anyone got any photos from the Wimbledon 3-0 win @ Plough Lane? Can you post in here if so please. It was the famous Ian Wright hat-trick game.

Sorry no photos. Memory of my wife nearly dying though. In Zandfoort for a long weekend. No results available. Left hotel bar in a drunken haze, wife crashes out. I find highlights package on Dutch tele and scare the shit out of her when Wfight scores from just into their half. She's not forgotten it either

I was sick as a dog at the back of the terrace due to one of the worst hangovers ever. Great day though

Funnily enough was thinking about that Wimbledon game the other day. Wasn't it the last league match played at Plough Lane?

Yes. The programme talks about their move to Selhurst. Also highlights what a git Hammam was. He wanted Wimbledon to pay every league game away from home going forward and take one of the two games at each ground as the Wimbledon home game and keep the receipts.

Great to see this thread bumped, 19 years after I last posted on it!

One other game that now springs to mind is the QPR home game in February. Easily forgettable as it was a 0-0 but a couple of things to mention

1. Stanley Collymore's debut when he came on as sub. Minimal skill, maximum pace. We loved it - this guy just got the ball and ran. Very entertaining on a day with limited action.

2. The ref (I think it was Brian Hill) getting the ball in the head and collapsing to the floor, to big cheers and laughter from the crowd. He survived, which was a shame because we never won when this twonk reffed our games (based purely anecdotally tbh, I don't know the exact stats but the Coventry '89 game still annoys me)

3. With the last kick of the game, Collymore blasted it into the Whitehorse. The ref blew his whistle with the ball still sailing over and everyone on the pitch turned and headed for the tunnel. The ball landed in the crowd just behind me and a group of lads saw their opportunity to perform a 'ball heist.' Between them, they smuggled the ball out of the ground, like a moving pack in a Rugby Union game. As soon as they were clear of the ground, they were then playing basketball with it as they walked up Whitehorse Lane. I was fascinated that they were able to get away with it but honored that they allowed me to touch the matchball. I've always been easily pleased!

No colour I’m afraid but a few black and white shots from the papers and a couple of reports.

Someone’s posted up the full Palace 8 Southend 0 game where Wright and Bright both scored hat tricks.

That week summed up Gazzamania so well. We won 8-0 against a team flying at the top of the third tier, yet Spurs' 5-0 win (complete with Gazza in the team) won League Cup Performance of the Week despite it coming against a lower opponent (I forget who tbh - probably Fourth Division) than Southend. I know these sorts of awards don't mean an awful lot but 8-0s are few and far between!!

Was the same month Gazza got away with taking (and scoring) a free kick against Palace before the ref had blown the whistle but was allowed to stand.

Gazzamania was rampant and it wasn't long before non-Spurs fans were getting sick of it

He didn't succeed (but he came close) but the crowd roared him on as several times he just got the ball and ran headlong for goal, not caring who he knocked over in the process. Classic Andy Gray!

That Spurs game at WHL with the Gazza free kick was one of my favourite memories of that wonderful season. We arrived in the face of the Gazza national wan*fest, and were expected to roll over. Really hurt to concede so unfairly but then came up with an equaliser in the last 10 minutes. Scenes in the away end.

Leaving the ground afterwards, you could see the anger in Spurs fans faces like ‘who the hell did we think we were’ to spoil the Gazza party.

In saying that, that season, Gazza was probably the best English player I’ve ever seen.
