Interesting thread that I have only just found.
I was around when the Dulwich team was founded some 40 odd years ago training on Peckham Rye and run by the great Jack O Keefe. I'm sure they were called the Dulwich Gaels back then so to see them now being called the Harps playing against the Wandsworth Gaels seems odd - might have got that wrong tho.
My grandfather played in the semi final of the Sam McGuire for the then tiny county of Longford versus the mighty Meath, so the football was always big in our house but I only used to get really into GAA when I spent the summer's in Ireland.
Leitrim would be my other team from my mother's side but none of them were into sports, more traditional music and dancing.
I will follow this thread with more conviction now

We were originally called Dulwich Gaels, not sure why they changed. I'll ask Tom Denning when I see him next. When I was togging out for them we were called Dulwich Harps. I knew Jack O Keefe & Charlie Tully from back in the day.

I met some fella in the Blythe from Longford on Saturday. I told him I'd only been there once to visit family and that was in Abbeylara; no prizes for guessing which small village in Longford yer man was from.

OM eagle from this parish has Leitrim connections.

Great snippet about your grandfather.

We probably know a few of the same people from back in the day. I moved out of the area in my early teens and discovered the oval ball, which i regret as I think g.football is a fantastic game, never really got on with the hurling tho.

I only seem to go back to Dulwich for funerals now up in St Thomas More in Dulwich Plough. Think the place went upmarket after I left

I was at the Kerry v Galway game last Saturday night in Tralee - great game both teams going for it... Even though I'm a Kerryman Galway were the better team on the night and they will be up Theresa the season progresses. good to see.

Joyce seems to have Galway playing a more expansive game so far, which will suit our flair players like Walsh & Daly. And we still have a few more Corofin players to bed in. I fear that we still lack something in midfield to win primary possession, but I'm hoping we give it a good rattle this year. And bate Mayo.

The GAA love a draw.

What's the take on Tyrone sending on a sub to kick off on the already booked Clifford to get him a second yellow & sent off? If it's true that is sneaky as feck. I'd expect Shane Walsh will be in for some needle when Tyrone come to Tuam if that is a legitimate tactic they're using; target the danger man.

Also, on the subject of dark arts, how did I miss McMenamin becoming the Fermanagh manager? He's one of my all time favourite corner backs.

That off the ball stuff drives me mad. Can't stand it. Think the Tyrone sub trick is anti-sport. The ref booking both players is a massive cop out, and so are the umpires. I've never seen them doing anything proactive apart from wave a flag. They are a massive weak spot.

They are my thoughts.

Ref wasn't much better in the Meath Mayo match either. If anything didn't play enough extra time. McEntee was not happy with the ref at the end!

I didn't think Micky Harte had that nasty streak in him to win at all cost.....and as for the umpires and linesmen who were watching it they were a disaster but then again the GAA only give them tea and sandwiches after the games.the referee gets "expenses" alright.

Laois very poor today against Clare. A lot of rebuilding to be done yet.

He was close to becoming the Galway manager this season, by all accounts. I know he's a nutcase and a proper wind up (& from Clare) but I can't help liking Davy Fitz.
