But you do surely recognise that stats only tell part of the story?

If, for example, your defence is poor with Pardew managing it, you then there is a chance that more of the shots you face will be from a more threatening position and with mor chance of a goal.

So now youíre just regurgitating stats, but you donít even know which season they apparently relate to

Truly believe he's the best shot stopper in the league right now. Makes so many outstanding saves. His wrist strength is phenomenal . Seriously though, excellent goalkeeper.

For a bit of context in relation to other keepers when playing the majority of the season and the team's xGa stat he's coming out on top. (Worth pointing out that not all our keepers have played a full season so they can't be fully to blame or take credit for any of these scores.)

Speroni 14/15:
xGa 45.48, Actual 51

Hennessey 15/16:
xGa 52.94, Actual 51

Hennessey 16/17
xGa 50.03, Actual 63

Henessey 17/18
xGa 53.45, Actual 55

18/19 is a little trickier to analyse because Hennessey and Guaita shared game time more so than any other season.
xGa 52.80, Actual 53

Guaita 19/20
xGa 33.65, Actual 24.
Nearly ten more expected goals prevented for the current season. Outstanding considering we've generally conceded more than we would have expected to based on the model.

Because I was going from memory. I have since had a proper look and it was for the Pardew/Allardyce season. The following season, he was marginally less bad. There are a plethora of websites out there if you want to take a look for yourself.

Point is the stats show how inadequate he has been throughout his time as a Palace goalkeeper.

Something like xG would compare the type of shot faced and likelihood of a goal. Those stats too show him in very poor light

Putting stats aside, Gweetah is a cracking keeper, Hennessey goes to ground like an avalanche of shit but he does an ok job coming in as backup.

I think like every defensive player, he struggled under Pardew's poor management and lack of balance. Once Luka, Sakho and a real left back/ backs came in they all performed much better.

That spell at the start of 16/17 was undoubtedly Hennessey's worst run of form but he was far from alone in that.

Surprised there is any debate here. Guaita is the better keeper by some distance.

I was having this debate with someone the other day who thought our beloved Jules was the better keeper.

Told him they were being sentimental, whilst Jules has given us the most wonderful service through the good times , the dark days , some amazing saves , performances and will always be a legend that on a pure basis of technical ability Guaita is definitely the better keeper and by some distance.

I don't think that's the motion being debated. I've not seen anyone try to claim that Hennessey is better that Guaita and you would need to be mad to try. However, X is better than Y does.not imply Y is shite.

You don’t understand xG. It doesn’t compare the type of shot. Just the position.

It’s an over used stat that people don’t really get.

Wayne is shit though.

There are people going into statistics to big up the Henn. The truth is that the guy is just about acceptable as a back up to Guiata. No more, no less.

Don’t think there was anything world class about the Aguero header, but obviously Guaita didn’t have a chance from that range. Poor marking.

I've only watched it once yet but Aguero got a lot of power on that header and perfect accuracy, Guiata had no chance, not all PL forwards would have headed it as well
