Spurs star says faith keeps him grounded

John Bostock was just 15 when he started playing in Crystal Palace’s First Team, making him the youngest player in history.

Speaking on Premier Christian Radio’s Men @ Work show with Nick Battle (which will be aired this Saturday), he explains how his faith in God has kept him grounded, and not tempted to stray into the ‘stereotypical’ behaviours of footballers we see regularly in the news these days:

“You have to take your off the field values on the pitch, because we’re called to be salt and light. So, if you’re saying one thing about your faith and who God is to you, and then on the pitch you’re playing like everyone else, is there really anything different?”

He says, “I understand that this talent isn’t really mine, I’m just a vessel of this gift and I have to use it correctly.”

John transferred from Crystal Palace Football Club to Tottenham Hotspur at just 16 years old. He received death threats at a result. Now, at 19 years old and married eight months ago, he describes a new London awakening of young players who are ‘running after God’s heart’.

“At West Ham, and at Tottenham where I am, there are a few young players that have been saved, and they’re actually running after God. They really desire to know him. We meet together often and we just seek God, and to just grow in him. It’s great to see young players who are supposed to be chasing girls, actually running after God’s heart.”

Ironically, the website the interview's from is called 'religious intelligence'.

He sounds as if he is not all there to be honest. If he talks like this around old Arry and the other players, no wonder he is nowhere near playing for them! Such a shame to waste your talent like that.

We don't need him back though. We have better players in that area and he'd be a negative influence on our academy players.

Plus it's much more satisfying watching his career going down the toilet

for all the bad about JB, he clearly is a savvy individual, as he has already launching his own range of merchandise.
I saw a flyer for it yesterday, and although perhaps not necessarily for me, it clearly gives some brand awareness in the slogan

Me too, Hilarious.

Didn't know he got married.
Maybe that will be an influence for him to improve his attitude, accept less input from his step-fatherand get his career back on track.

He still has time to become the player his God tells him he should be.
Put the work in and get the rewards.
God speed.

He's still earned more in a month than people earn in a year. I'm sure he could actually retire soon if he's been careful with his cash. Feel so sorry for him.

At last, we have a new David Icke for the 2000's.

I'm sure he's got plenty of time on his hands to chase after "God's Heart", sure isn't needed by anyone to run after a football at the weekends

Just another thought I had yesterday, didn't his step father criticise Palace, and in particular Warnock for our playing style and he suggested that Warnock wouldn't get the best out of him as a precoscious talent. He didn't too badly with Taarabt did he?

As with everything they've said, it really was a big pile of smeg.

The step-father tended to tell every manager how they were wating his talents and how they should play him by all accounts.

Poor John. Sometimes God can be a cruel bastard. Hopefully he won't start making him run backwards, to screw his career up even more.

I seem to remember at the time you gave more credence to the step-father's version of events than Warnock's
