The heat map i saw showed only 2 CBs (which seemed odd with that system). In any case, they were certainly not in the areas that teams would traditionally want - it is very counter to the tradition that CBs shouldn't be too far apart.

Like any system, once other teams have a proper look and experience of it, they can be countered.

Will be interesting to watch.

I’d actually think our system with 2 up top could disrupt them.

If you played Benteke up top to allow us to go direct if their centre backs roam forward, and have Wilf alongside him, they’re going to have to be very brave.

It’s an interesting tactic, but one you can get away with in the Championship. Would you want your Centre backs high up the pitch, with a midfield player left to mark Wilf, or even someone like Kane.
Last season they could get away with it in the Championship where they were one of the best teams. That’s not the case now.

But I’d bank on Wilder having plans to deal with a team like us.

Didn’t look like ‘bollocks’ vs Bournemouth, who are quite similar to us in terms of counter attacking with pace. Didn’t look like bollocks vs the whole of the championship either.

If Guardiola did it, he’d be lauded as a genius.

Yep, it’s Basham and O’Connel who go forward, because they have a bit of pace. John Egan stays back.

Depends if our passing is accurate and quick. If it is we can do them on a very fast counter. It needs low wind and Camarasa though to work. Essentially counter press the overload and force them to back peddle and mess up what I'm assuming is a sweeper based system.

If we sit back (which we will) then I think it could be a very uncomfortable afternoon.

Perfect first home game for SU, unless Wilf plays and is focussed, and Townsend gets his act together.

Looking at Penstone Eagle's signature: happy to take the piss out of someone for being relentlessly positive, but can't take it when his relentless, often baseless negativity is called out.

OK I was being too black and white. He wouldn't survive as a Premiership manager for 5 minutes unless he was adaptable to some extent - but he is at the opposite end of the spectrum to someone like Tony Pullis who would spend days and hours researching and planning tactics, for example like the time be beat Chelsea against all the odds (and, yes, I know that he's a c*** )

Seems like pure conjecture to be honest, and does Roy a disservice.

The only danger Benteke poses to opposing defenders is if he accidentally falls on them.

Are we getting this all out of proportion?

They are new to the Premier League. We are an extremely effective away side and have seen off most of the top sides at their grounds. Not saying we will find it easy - far from it - but they will have done their homework on us and be a little nervous of our away capabilities. Let them worry about us.

Good post, far from a gimme but I would have chosen them or Norwich as our first away game. We should have enough experience for at least a point.

I think it’s fair to discuss how we’ll deal with a system we’ve never really faced before. Could catch us off guard with ill preparation for it.

But you’re right, we’re definitely favourites and I’m 70% sure we’ll win.
