I don't mind them thinking that, because it plays into our hands. I hope Wilder and his players think the same, but I doubt it.

Definitely not. Wilder even mentioned in his post Bournemouth interview the other day how good an away team we are.

It was the case, if you look at the run in. They weren't on anyone's automatic promotion radar until very late in the day.

Their fluid and adventurous style will suit as down to a T. All our fantastic away performances last season were based around our ability to break with speed and purpose.

We work better as an attacking force when we have space to work with as opposed to having lots of possession and trying to grind teams down. Easy three points I reckon

Quick skim through here, and there were top 3 in 29 out of 46 matchdays, and didn’t drop below that from the 1st of January until the end of the season.

If by ‘not on anyone’s automatic promotion radars’ you mean underdogs who made it against all odds, you’re right. But they were in strong contention for automatic promotion for most of the season. Bielsa’s teams usually drop off at the end of the season by the way, out of pure exhaustion, so it’s not as if Leeds bottling it was a flukey stroke of luck.

Got a lot of time for Wilder, met him a couple of times and he is a genuinely lovely bloke.

That said their fans need to travel up the M1 and ask Huddersfield fans what happens when you man mark and piss off Wilf.

Also, Sakho was doing this whole overlapping centre back thing for years anyway To view the link you have to Register or Login

The CB overload thing is smart in the sense that it exploits space on the flanks and whilst most defences set up as set 'banks' of at least four and can easily move across and cover any movement from attacking players, who are afterall in close proximity to them, players runing from deep are much harder to pick up and thus will create a temporary overlap and as the defence adjusts the attacking players move into the space.

This depends on creating a chance with the overlap quickly before the defence adjusts and also their ability to adjust to the CB going forwards in order to cover the space he leaves in defence.

For Palace the key to it is to press quickly with our midfield (the defence shouldn't adjust to meet the CB but stay compact) which I think means playing with 5 in midfield. The second thing to do is play Zaha as a loan forward. This will panic the whole Utd team, especially if the CB they leave back is the slow one. They may have their FB's 'tuck in' but one FB has to presumably be part of the overload. That's the side where the attack takes place and that's where Zaha should be to start a break. The FB on the other side might tuck in but will be nowhere near Wilf.

It reminds me of the Man City game last season when Wilf played upfront on his own. We had a midfield of Townsend, McArthur, Luka, Schlupp and Meyer. Its a shame Schlupps injured, perhaps Ayew can play. These five need to quikcly pick up the overload and be prepared to leave one side of the pitch open. Perhaps one player (Meyer?) could be given a free role, outside of the two banks of 4 and 'overload' whichever side Utd are attacking.

Of course the best way to stop overloading CB's is to retain posession the ball and keep them in their own half.

So... stay compact and exploit the space that they leave with pace and purpose.
The thing is, Sheffield United are no Manchester City. As you said, we have the ability to control this game with the ball as well as without it.

To be fair the northern ******* don't seem to realise we smashed Bournemouth 5-3 last time we played them and Bournemouth tried winding Wilf up and kicking him up in the air. That didn't work out too well for them.

In the last two seasons we've finished 11th and 12th not sure why this lot think we're getting relegated. Bournemouth are shit defensively and their form was atrocious at the end of the season whereas ours was top six form. Not really sure this lot know anything about the prem......

I didn't realise John Egan was playing for then and one of their centre backs. Not sure if he's an overlapping one or not.

Thought he was alright in his 1 league game for us.

Nah, he’s the one who sits back. Basham and O’Connel overlap because they’ve got more pace and technical ability.

We are far, far better than our ingrained pessimism leads us to believe, especially away from home.

Shefford Utd will be schooled this weekend; they will be buoyed by their last minute equaliser and believe they can beat us.

We have the organisation, character and experience to soak it up and hit them hard.

Another clean sheet and two or three goals scored.

They will come out all guns blazing for their first home game so we better be ready. They'd be all fired up from getting a point in their first game so they'll be brimming with confidence. We'd better take them on the Palace way, sit back a little and use our speed, width and quick passing to rip them apart on the counter.

I think a lot depends on which Zaha turns up On Sunday, he was instrumental in away results last season.

A lot of Championship teams got caught out by it last season, despite everyone being aware of the tactic. And many of those teams were meant to be better than Palace.

They didn’t use it against Bournemouth - partly because Howe countered it - but partly because they played more defensively.
