And yes, the best Palace player ever.
He has scored more goals than any other season in the Premier and you think his form has been poor!

I agree players rarely play to their best every game, its just not possible.

Disagree about him being our best ever player.

Just because this keeps being quoted by many but today it equals his best in the PL I think from 18/19. Two of those are penalties and he is on 3 less assists and probably won a tenth of the penalties.

He has 5 games left to make it his best in terms of goals and maybe assists. Lets hope he makes it both and if he can beat the winning pens stat we will be in for some huge victories

Since all games have been live on TV, yet to meet another team's supporter-other than juvenile, desperate Arsenal fans- who would want him in their team. For that matter, a neutral who rates him. Love Wilf, and thankful for all he has done for Palace. but his dream of a "top club" move is long gone.

For me he's the GOAT in my 45 years watching Palace, particularly for the longevity of his performances.

He started this season on fire, but in the second part of the season hasn't been anywhere near the same. I struggle to remember the last time he rinsed a defender or two.

Is that due to tactics ? Is it due to a realisation that approaching 29 he won't get the move he craves ? Is it because the transfer market has almost certainly changed due to Covid yet his value to us remains the same ?

I'd say probably a combination of everything, but he's not been the same player for the last 10-15 games.

Whatever happens I'll always be grateful for having been lucky enough to see him play for us for so long.

Part of me thinks that the Board, or maybe just Parish, have for whatever reason, set their sights very low, on just surviving. They see Roy as a guarantee of this, regardless on how poorly he has been supported in recruitment, and they see Wilf as Roy's trump card.

Roy, for me is way too defensive and he has snuffed the creativity and energy out of too many of our front players, and fails to play to certain players strengths...but last summer was SOOO disappointing, we completely failed to address the defensive issues, Kouyate has done well enough as a stand-in CB, but we have lost him from midfield. It's hard to be very positive about any of the rest of our defence save that Ward has been fairly solid.

When you look at the midfield, with Macca injured and Meyer gone, the line up just doesn't seem to work. The balance of the side is completely wrong, and Eze looks like an asset being squandered.

Set against the overall malaise within the squad it is un-surprising that Wilf looks unhappy, and he is also getting more knocks, so his effectiveness is much reduced. But Roy isn't handling him right either, so it often looks like Wilf is playing for himself, not the team [because he likes to do the same thing time and again, and it isn't working anymore]

Still no news on the injury front? Guess we’ll have to wait for the Press Conference tomorrow, fingers crossed he’s fit and raring to go for the rest of the season.

He hasn't been on fire for 2 years or more, tepid at best and frequently underwhelming

I think the life is being sucked out of all of us watching Palace this season so I doubt the players are any different. Just feels really flat at the moment.

What about the other players in the team Guieta for instance. Or Ayews goals the other year, or even Benteke's this year.

Wilf could also learn a lot from how Joel Ward carries himself.

Jordan Ayew scored 9 goals last season.

Benteke has scored 6 this.

Wilf is on 10. Whats your point? Stop trying to dig him out - its pathetic.

An individual's performance is more than just goals scored, its impact and influence on the performance as a whole.

Unlike you, and possibly others I don't elevate Wilf to a God-like status, who is beyond criticism. One could argue that's more pathetic.
A lot of fans would argue with you that his performances have been on the whole no more than lukewarm, over a couple of seasons. As for his attitude and strops, well, I expect passion but it has to be channelled. It's embarrassing at times.

Still 1st name on team sheet every week, even an out of form carrying an injury Wilf is preferable to any of the other wide players we have

He is clearly guilty of setting high standards - those like yourself will only really appreciate just how good he is and miss him once he's gone

Just FYI, with Wilf in the team this year - weve averaged 1.3 points a game. Without, 0.63. So Id argue quite strongly that he has a lot of impact & influence on our performances.
