When the new manager is in hopefully we will see more of what he is capable of in an attacking sense.

Some good back heeled flicks and passes in tight areas, making good positive runs in to the box and making space for himself getting in to good positions.

He is competing with last years top scorer and 2 strikers in the squad of the number 1 ranked nation in the world who between then have 5 goals this season, 60% of those from Benteke who most Palace fans seem to want to never play again.

He might score but if he does it will not be many under this manager.

Didn't run across his man once, couldn't hold up play, looked lost, didn't show physical strength.

A lone striker needs to be either a nuisance with a big physical presence that bullies opponents and outmuscles them (Benteke is actually good at this!) or they need to be a greedy poacher, able to feed off scraps limited chances, think Vardy or Lineker.

Could Mateta play in a two up top? Who with? What qualities he brings to a strike partnership?

You’ve seen him play 60 minutes in a poor team where for most of the time he had to come deep to receive the ball. Give the bloke a chance. I thought there were some positive signs. He’ll struggle under Hodgson, but maybe there will only be 15 games of Hodgson left.

On 49/50 minutes he was free in the area and had lost his man but a poor touch from Ayew and a poor decision to shoot and not touch meant it went out for a goal kick.

This was Mateta’s debut, in a team of player’s he’s only been training with for a couple of weeks and this was far from our first choice 11, and people are writing him off already. It’s embarrassing to read this kind of bullshit.

Very difficult and harsh to judge him tonight. Thought he did ok given the service to him was utter gash. Looking around him, he probably wondered what the fvck he’d done coming here.

Yep, yet another striker we will fail to service. And probably blame him. Anyone notice the difference between Bamford playing for us and for them? It's called 'service.' But we'll buy ten more strikers before we'll invest in a decent midfield. Same old, same old.

Two things will define our almost decade in the Prem. How comparative little we put into being able to play a more progressive football and how we were relegated the season Zaha left.

Well said.

Although even with a first choice 11 I'm not sure he'd get the service. Maybe Wilf is the key.

Thought the same. Looked lost at times but probably due to no service, wanting to make an impact and getting upto speed. More positives than negatives

I had to look it up but in the Pl we have played 449 games and scored 483 goals.

Hardly prolific.

Try and find another shitty stick to hit Roy with.

To be honest, I’m surprised we’ve scored more than 1 a game on average

You've just slaughtered the Palace team, it was his poor touch, that led to the first goal.
