Red salmon. Mash with mayonnaise and chopped spring onions, spread thickly on crusty rolls. Yum.

Wrong. Toast, then cheese, then beans, then more cheese.

The stuff our contact brings in from the UK is still in the tins. However, been a couple of years.

Safeway used to do tinned Madras and Masala curries that had the same sort of tang that you get in an Indian restaurant (you know the sort) lived on them as a student and have been unable to find anything that replicates them since.

Yes, I also put marmite on the buttered toast these days, and my future plan is to involve a layer of Pickapeppa sauce, the Jamaican version of HP

My Mum used to get this sort of steak and kidney suet pudding thing that you took the top off (I think) and boiled it in the can.

Loved them, my mouth is watering thinking about it. Had it with boiled potatoes and peas.

The shell used to be pretty smooth if I recall, not flaky looking like the Fray Bentos photos I saw. Maybe it was suet, if not I don't have a clue... and the can didn't have a cone shape either, just straight like a can of beans.

That is the Fray Bentos pudding. The pie is with the flakey crust.

Nope.

It is like calling a vacuum cleaner a hoover to some degree.

Can is the noun.

I suspect tin has been converted into the noun meaning the same as can, but it probably originally described the material.

That is a fine call.

We can sometimes find them in a supermarket here. They make a fine breakfast/bruch substitute for beans.

Some tinned soups are tasty. Can't get those here - except for the very expensive Campbell's.

I could cope with that, on the basis that we still finish with sausages and fried egg.

I don't know how people can eat baked beans. I couldn't put them in my mouth, I find them utterly foul; the mere sight or smell of them makes me gag.
