match report in german:
Regionalliga Nord, 8. Spieltag Samstag, 10. September 2005, 14:00 Uhr BSV Kickers Emden - VfB Lübeck

Kickers Emden: Hoffmeister - Gundelach, Neunaber, Grgic, van Buskirk (76. Siedschlag), Spahic, Schindler, Cerci, Nägelein, Ewert (81. Stahlberg), Glöden (76. Cannizzaro)

VfB Lübeck: Frech - Laaser, Schröder, Dogan, Türkmen - Mbidzo, Hirsch, Möckel (87. Kullig) - Bärwolf (46. Thomas), Kampf (82. Hesse), Schweinsteiger

150 of the 25o or so VfB supporters stayed inside the ground for more than 30 minutes in order to cheer the team and manager Stefan Böger in particular. He came out to salute them after he'd conducted the after-match pressconference.

The answer is quite simple: 2. Bundesliga is a killer-league - you either go up or you go down (8 of the 18 club on the move a season).

The season before last RWO were close to promotion. Then the bubble burst and they struggled, got relegated (just like VfB a season before).

But once you are demoted to "amateur status" you're up for grabs. Players can move on a free and honestly which player wants to join them in those circumstances?

So to drop down yet another divsion is not uncommon.
Trier are struggling as well this season.

Given these facts VfB Lübecks achievement last season is even more admirable. Apart from a club crest we virtually had nothing to show.

As for RWO they've never been crowd pullers, their ground is outdated and they're heading to Oberliga football if you ask me (where they've been recently before the former 1. Bundesliga club started a comeback that now seems to be over).

Haven't had a look at 2. Bundesliga table. Honest.
I'm something of a very small minded person. Only the divsion VfB Lübeck are playing in is of any interest to me - and of course CPFC.

Thanks for the RWO info, Rudi

Been trying to track down an african player called Abdou, who played for them in 2003. Any pointers would be most welcome!

got home late from work and when I passed Best Western Hotel which is only 800 metres next to my house I saw the Fortuna Düsseldorf coach parked right in front. Nice hotel (David Murray and a banned person formerly known as Stephenson Soundbyter etc will happily agree to).
