I cannot think of any building project of this size in South London since the last Crystal palace burnt down

The section 106 agreement(money for the council is apparently all that is holding up final agreement with Croydon).

The mayor will then be under pressure not to call it in.

I suspect that Sainsbury will not want to obviously stand in the way of development either. I suspect that this will move forward later this year.

I am not moving to the new stand but hard to justify a downside.
Well said.
To wade through the dithering, dreary claptrap of the wannabe parish councillors on here, is to lose the will to live.

Sainsbury is frozen until the result of their ASDA merger plan application is resolved. That is another glacial "public enquiry" which proceeds at the pace of the slowest/laziest/most obstructive lawyer/bureaucrat. That store has to be high on the closure list.

Timing isn't with us, but their merger\takeover of Asda is due for review very soon. Wonder if that will involve forced or planned closure of some sites?

Sainsbury's will slowly be backed into a corner, unless they open constructive dialogue very soon. In as much as they can part of the process to incorporate a new store into the stadium, or they can try to hold their nerve and get CPFC's architects to make things as difficult as possible for the store.
Sainsburys will not have life made difficult for them by CPFCs architects - they OWN THE LAND. No agreement with Sainsburys - no stand. Even if we get the Planning Permission that does not give the Club the right to build on land that does not belong to it. A CPO could be made but that could be expensive and also a lengthy procedure

Whether the store stays open or closes makes little difference to the value of the land as the land is not part of the current store. I would hope that it stays open because if it does then there may be something that can be offered to them by way of improvements to encourage them to sell the land. If it shuts then they will only want the most money they can get for the land and there will not be other sweetners available.

It is important that whatever deal/arrangement is made between the club and Sainsbury's, that the cream cake counter is not adversely affected

The Mayors office is keeping a very close eye on this site Ė lets see if the sports centre is still open in 18 months time Ė I have my doubts
In all honesty they would have a very logical reason for objecting, with 30-40,000 there every other week the place would be gridlocked, especially when you consider how bad it is already. The club would need to convince everyone involved that the vast majority of fans would travel on public transport and that this could be staggered by enticing them to be in the ground for longer than just the match.

Considering how the club can't even refurbish and improve the Red & Blue bar to this end for a few hundred fansI wouldn't feel confident it could be done with thousands of fans. Not only that but the club would have to prove the stadium would be of a real benefit to the local community, which again it has struggled to do with this new stand.

10 years away this new stand according to the planners at Croydon Council.
It’ll be shelved soon .

How come Spurs can put a massive cock on the front of theirs and we had all sorts of grief in the planning hearing about having a majestic eagle on ours?
