This . Max will get there but in our position we need strength in the midfield and atm he doesnít give us that . Thereís no doubting his abilities but he is a good option off the bench atm . He will start at Doncaster so letís see how effective he is over 90 mins .

I think once Kouyate is back he'll make up for any lack of physical presence that Meyer has and therefore simply has start and play in a similar role to yesterday. Macca is a consistent 7/10 player but doesn't have the creativity we need, especially at home

Schlupp has probably been our second or third best performer on a week in week out basis after AWB.

You canít blame Roy for starting Sclhupp over Meyer

3 points of relegation and muppets still think Hodgson is doing a good job. Need to wake up, geezer is holding us back massively. Just pray we stay up and he ****s off at the end of the season.

There is the crux of it. It was the same with RLC. Obviously a hugely talented player but for a while we only saw glimpses of that. For large parts of games he’d be utterly anonymous and an utter hole in midfield with next to no defensive ability. The exciting thing about Ruben was the rate at which he improved. Week by week we saw him get better and better. Funnily enough under Roy

Max too has shown potential but until now has been simply second best to jimmy whenever he has played. By a mile

Jimmy has been better defensively, harder working, run more.. all as you expect but far more creative too. His passing has been great at times, his runs into the box better and jimmy would turn in midfield and end up driving or passing forward. Max usually turns back to Sakho or Pva. Still exotic name eh?

What we have seen is late in games him get space in and around the edge of the area attacking. He’s formed some perfect triangles with Pva and in particular wilf and has on several occasions opened teams up (like jimmy did for the assist yesterday funnily enough but that won’t really get acknowledged on here by many) but it seems to be where he comes alive in a creative sense.

That’s not me being negative on max. He’s clearly got quality, he’s improved just a bit more realistic expectations.

Yesterday was his best performance in a palace albeit brief. It’s his strongest claim for a start imo and Doncaster is a great game to show his quality.

Exciting player to have in the squad but some are so desperate for him to play it’s blinding their judgment on who’s been better. That’s been jimmy by a mile but the gap is closing

As for talking about Roy... Not 100% right but often is. The more the bbs is adamant he’s not got a clue the more often he’s proven right. That of course gets forgotten but it’s the same as parish. Bullshit spouted as fact so often and so much louder than reason it becomes common knowledge and no one will acknowledge anything that disproves it

This isn’t a time for slagging off selections. It’s a bloody brilliant squad, filled with quality options and depth and hard to choose. That’s what we’ve wanted

Modern football fan. One game to score a hattrick, dominate midfield etc or he is ******* useless etc.

Players need a run of games and need to be played to their strengths before being judged, Meyer clearly has ability but has never been given a run.

I think part of the problem is plating two wingers, is it necessary? what was interesting at the end of the game yesterday was that AWB was really providing the width and Townsend was playing more like an inside left. The question is are we better off with Meyer in that role rather than AT. I'm fairly sure that Batman would prefer the short balls to feet rather than crosses from a winger unlike Benteke whose prowess is in the air.

We have some serious options and its hard to know who to leave out.
I do think that having two tricky wingers is always going to leave you short in the middle and a striker isolated which why they all have struggled.

Roy Hodgson footballing CV says CPFC are fortunate to have a manager of his experience and knowledge in charge and that needs to be appreciated by his knockers, and it was that quality which came into play last season that saved us from what seemed an impossible task.
To confound everyone he has followed that up and done a similar excellent job this season with what in effect was a team without a Striker, even the pleas of the manager for strengthening was ignored by the Board in the summer window, i cant think of any manager achieving that feat under such constraints. So his priority then became safety and ensuring we were NOT relegated which meant for Now having solidity at the expense of creativity, and it is that understanding that tends to get ignored by some fans and need to be appreciate as to why the manager takes this stance.
We hear many say due to FPP we were unable to spend in the transfer market, then why can they not understand RH's reasons as with what he has at his disposal his main objective is first and foremost remaining in the premiership and play what team/players is needed to make it happen, and so far he is achieving that.
As for why the flair of Meyer is ignored to the graft of Schlupp, could it as the saying goes "horses for courses" for the situation we currently are in surely has a bearing? I like many others find it difficult also to understand as i am a fan of Meyer's quality, but Roy's team choice could well be a different if we sat comfortably in a mid table position, and that tends to get ignored by some.
Lets show Roy the respect his judgement deserves and as to why he is doing so, would we rather he plays a team with flair and then get relegated? as Sean Dyche said a team of our standing play to our strengths and what is needed to survive, and that sums it up.

The problem Roy has with Meyer is, he is what I would call a luxury player who can be very creative and could win you a game but if he does not perform he does not give you anything else. Very similar to Ozil for Arsenal.

The question is can we afford to play him when we are fighting against relegation? I think that is why Roy only uses him from the bench when we are chasing a game.
