Most interceptions in the Bundesliga last season, what a ‘luxury player.’ Completely different to Ozil in the past few years too, more of a deep plying playmaker. Doesn’t really have a chance to show those sides of his game stuck on the left wing though.

Bundersliga is a much slower pace than the PL and it takes time to adjust. Also Bundersliga usually take a winter break and Max's form was definitely off during Dec/Jan which could be a reason. He looked better yesterday than I have seen him for a while, let's hope he starts pushing for a regular start.

I think this season was all about letting Max bed in and not have too much pressure on him. Once we are relatively safe mathematically then i think you will see him play more. Also when we bring in better players in the summer who can support Max and allow him more time to be creative then we’ll get the best out if him but for now let’s trust in Roy.

“When we bring in better players over the summer”. My guess is that the current squad - including loanees - is about as good as it’s going to get. Keeping hold of our best 4-5 players will be difficult.

Have faith costello! I think we are finally progressing as a club and we will see that over the next few seasons.

Yep, Max even talked about the faster pace of the Prem in an interview. My main point was that I don’t think we’ll ever see the best from him unless he’s playing centrally. Whether that’s a deeper role where he can use his intelligence to intercept, cut passing lanes and playmake, or a more offensive role ‘in the hole.’ Sure he could adjust and become a decent floating playmaker on the wing, but just think we’d be wasting him personally.

I certainly hope so. But we’ll need to find more income from somewhere if we are going to add more quality to our current squad.

Not in a 4-4-2. In a 3 man midfield, yes.

I’ve never known palace to create so many chances week afte week.

Are stats regularly dominate the opposition

Creativity is not our issue. Finishing is.

This is it.

Once we start scoring goals we'll give any team something to worry about.

I still think Benteke will find his mojo again and if he combines well with the batman, we're going to be a pretty good side.

Certainly Europa League standard.

I agree with most of what you say about the excellent Meyer especially where you ask will we ever see the best of him, personally i feel he is a "fetch and carry" type as he has the ability to do that role, one drawback is that he lacks the physicality to go with that role in our physical premiership.
Unfortunately i can only see Roy using him mainly as a substitute, but i feel if for next season we bring in the impressive Mooy with his clever but surprisingly strong on the ball play and good movement, and if played alongside Luka would give our central midfield formation strength also flair. That would allow Meyer to slot into the setup far better and able to express his brand of clever football to far greater effect and probably make Palace a very fluid Midfield Three.

Not seen anything from him to suggest he is a No10.

His passing is neat and tidy. He's a good technical player. But he is hardly opening the opposition up with vision, pin-point passes and creativity. I see him as a deep-lying playmaker. But I take your point about the need for playing him in the middle - this idea that he was going to replace RLC on the left of midfield was always going to end in tears.

I would have done, even in a 4-4-2, in certain home games. He hasn't started enough games. Compared to the other options currently available to Roy in centre mid (Luka, Kouyate, McArthur, Schlupp) he offers something different, namely technical ability and ball retention.

With all the big chances we've missed due to poor finishing, we must be much higher in the table on xG. Are we? We should have scored 5 more than we have, which is more than any other EPL team, but still doesn't have us higher than 13th in number of goals scored.

Finishing could be improved on, but it isn't as woeful as people are making out.

Never seen a Palace Team create so many chances. Max Meyer's 1st season in the Premier League and getting used to the pace and physicality of it. Been eased in gradually and hopefully see him play more of a role going forward.

Don't think that a lack of creativity is a problem!

It's the finishing of the chances that has been the problem!

I take his, for a time, very successful stint as a 10 at Schalke as a sign he could play there. Would rather him deeper personally though.
