Proof that not all footballers are arrogant big time charlies. Came here, worked his socks off and justified what were pretty high wages to us at the time. Shame injuries did for him. All the best to him

Having him around the place moved us up a level as a club in our way of thinking. Great player. His performance in FA Cup away when we won 3-2 was of the highest quality. So good even Sanogo managed a goal off the back of it. Some of the dross he had to play with when he first came....but did he complain or have a hissy? Not a chance.

Agree completely bar the wages which Arsenal subsidised the majority! Top player for us

Have we had a better 10 since his first season? Would love an intelligent, creative player like that now. As someone else said massively under rated here and elsewhere.

Scored our first goal back in the Prem away at Stoke. Was a lovely finish and a lovely moment.

Tell me about it! Shows what a bunch of entitled drama queens Arsenal fans are, the way they’ve dragged his name through the mud. He wasn’t good there after his first season, but nowhere near bad enough to deserve being probably one of the biggest laughing stocks in modern football.

Thought they paid half. Then we gave him a 2 year deal after the first season

He ran his bollocks off for us and was a clever player as well. Pundits took the piss a bit at the start, but he really knuckled down and dug it out. Really liked him.

Nice to see the love on here for Cham. One of my favourite players for us in this Premier League era.

Christ we’ve had some toilet in the prem since we’ve been here but he’s definitely not been one. A lovely footballer, with no chip on his shoulder and willing to put in every ounce of effort. Will always be welcome into the park of Selhurst with a warm hug waiting for him from circa 25’000 fans. A cult hero as such in years to come.

Like most of us I had my doubts when we signed him, based on the negative reputation he seemed to have built up. Shows you can never trust the media. I remember the home game against Arsenal with Keith Millen in charge, shortly after Holloway had walked. Chamakh had a really solid game and I saw that I had been wrong to doubt him. As the game wore in I grew more and more irritated by Robbie Savage's pre-meditated efforts to write him off as crap whilst simultaneously bumlicking Arsenal's new signing Mesut Ozil to kingdom come, even claiming that Arteta's red card was harsh purely because Chamakh was the player he had chopped down. Pathetic punditry.

Then 18 months later he gave one of the greatest all round displays I've ever seen from a Palace player in the 3-1 win at Anfield. He was quality and we were lucky to pick him up.

He knuckled down and rediscovered the meaning of football and team having lost his way a bit. He had something to prove and did it.

That's a good question - even though I think the questioner is questionable. The answer is no, although 'modern' football has rather sidelined the classic no. 10.

Goal against Southampton away in the cup springs to mind, great finish.

Probably our smartest player during that period, especially considering the players he was surrounded with were of a lower standard than what we currently have (Jerome, Ince, Bannan etc.)

Funny player. Had all the talent in the world but was stuck in a team with us just desperate to survive and probably didn't really get to showcase his true talents, however surprisingly gave his all, ran his socks off and put it about.

Not what you would typically expect from a player of his ilk, so all due respects for that. Many a player would have come and sulked that we weren't using him properly or playing to his strengths.

All the best in your retirement Marouane.

Met him in a club in Vegas after his first season with us - was really decent guy, even with 2 morons shouting in his face that we were palace fans and he was a great player ... Sorry about that!

Wonerfull player technically with so much ability to change around a game when fitness permitted, but sadly we Palace fans did not see that often enough making us very frustrated with the player.

I certainly wasn't frustrated with him. Yes his injury problems were a shame but we were lucky to have him and I'd say he was absolutely critical in our path towards becoming a more established premier League team
